Review: Having been through the divorce process myself and then assisted many others I deplore the ignorance with which we all start out. In my state, as in most, child support collection is very poor. Also many women have to leave their homes and file for divorce in order to escape abuse. Then these domestic refugees are subjected to the abuse of the system. This book is not easy reading, but its anecdotes are repeated many times over around the country.. Women are apt to be naive. Bride's Magazine does not do follow up stories. Many of us expected some degree of fairness. We thought that perjury was punishable and didn't join in the lying game. Besides naivete, women are much more apt to be easily humiliated and thereby can be manuveured into being the one to file for divorce. Well educated women like the wives of presidents have been trained to hang in there no matter what. That schooling comes from another time, and class. Our sisters in poor neighborhoods never are supported because many of the fathers have given up on seeking regular employment and are not in their children's lives at all, and in some cases that is best. Reflecting on this book has put our culture in a new light for me. I believe that men also should take heed. Women may be the canaries in the mine who warn us all that our justice system could fall for all and if so democracy cannot survive. One would hope that the men who read this book see it as a challenge to compassion not victim competition. Marion Strand Center for Law Access.

Summary: Hard-hitting expose of family court discrimination
Review: I wish that I had read this book prior to entering the "Civil & Criminal" court system in January 1996. I was very naive when I first entered the system & I am still in the system. This book is a true & accurate reflection of what my experience has been in the Court System, with lawyers & Judges. It helped me to understand that I was not crazy & that when Domestic Violence is existent in the Divorce process that it is inevitable that Court Abuse will follow. I have distributed many copies of this book to women that are entering the court system, and to Judges, Lawyers & legislators. I have met many women that have shared my similar experience of devastation, financial depravation & emotional abuse thru court abuse. ...

Summary: Hard-hitting expose of family court discrimination
Review: Ms. Winner has courageously exposed what the unsuspecting woman entering today's divorce courts soon discovers. The playing field is not level, nor fair, and justice is rarely encountered. I filed from divorce from a father that was abusive toward myself and my eldest daughter, did not contribute financially to the family during marriage, and was physically absent for a significant amount of the marriage due to recreational travel. When he learned he might have to pay a significant amount of child support, suddently I was faced with a custody dispute of monumental proportions. When my daughter displayed normal fears of her father due to the abuse she'd both witnessed and received, I was attacked with accusations of parental alienation and mental illness. My children and I have been dragged through the court system for nearly 5 years now, and there is no end in sight. When I discovered Ms. Winner's book, I was so relieved to find out I really was not going crazy--the system is currently set for a full-out assault on good mothers. And it is the children, and ultimately our society that is suffering. The world, particularly our government officials, desperately needs an update from Ms. Winner on the terrifying growth of extremist father's rights groups that actually advise child molestors, abusers, absent fathers, substance-abusing fathers and deadbeat fathers how to legally assault their former spouses and take full custody of their victim children. All the while, these groups gloat that they are receiving federal funding to carry on this horrible social engineering.

Summary: What every Woman Needs to Know
Review: PAS is part of the men's divorce group, I have gotten to know these people well. I have been walked out of court by some of their members.

America has turned brutal to their families, the court system a farce. Corrupt Judges, attorneys and secret deals the wife knows nothing about. The emotional battering is unbelievable.

The American court system is turning misogynists. In my court system several of the judges had statements made about them in a law suit in reguards to sexual misconduct,and sexual harassment, as well as many of the county agencies have had equal problems in this area. All example is poor conduct towards women.

No, one is against the father, but some of the 'radical' groups which have evolved have men in them who have a long history of violence and misogynist behaviors againist women in their lives. "Radical" is the term to use to describe these people.

It is a sad state the American family is in, and the American courts.

Women are having domestic violence laws used against them, and they are being 'set up'in false claims of this,piror to and in divorced actions. The man using the courts to futher batter his wife.

A needed book for any woman, and the children who are unwitting victims.

"Real men", who just are not happy in a marriage and want out, do not put their families through this nightmare, misogynist do.

Review: This book gives any woman who has gone through the horrific experience of divorce. It is the only report of the injustices done and the lack of control non-lawyers have when faced with our court and legal systems of marital/family law.

Review: this book should be required reading for every married woman whether or not she contemplates divorce. Everything Ms. Winner describes in her book I have experienced in my family, but thought it was just bad luck. This book shows it is not the exception but the rule that women in the court system are treated badly and that they are taken to the cleaners by lawyers.
