Review: This book advertises itself as an intro to eating vegetarian, but it is more like a harangue to go vegan.
I was quite disappointed that the author (who should have named the book "The Vegan Female") has already decided that simply being ovolacto-vegetarian isn't enough. For someone who is trying to get to the point where eggs and milk are the only animal products in her diet, and who still needed good sound information about alternate sources of protein, etc., this book was not what I needed at all. Scary lectures about the (exaggerated) dangers and health risks of eggs and milk, long drones about the evils of meat blah blah blah (hello? I already KNOW that stuff or I wouldn't be trying to go vegetarian), and grand claims totally unsupported by anything beyond author opinion serve only to undermine the value of this book. She says nothing about the potential dangers of too much soy, which any reasonable search for information on vegetarianism should bring up to a reader.

If I wanted to be preached at about my diet, I'd go to a PETA rally. I was looking for solid factual information and a few ideas for making the transition easier. I'm still looking, because I certainly didn't find them in this book.

Summary: Great Comprehensive Information for Women
Review: This is a great book that gives an overview of the health benefits of being a vegetarian. It's full of information gathered from research not sponsored by the meat or dairy councils. It covers a range of issues, from adolescents to the elderly, and focuses on both the disease-causing agents in the food we eat, as well as the disease-preventing ability of the vegetarian diet. A must-read for those looking to become vegetarians or to confirm their lifestyle choice.
