Rating: Summary: A personal trainer on pages Review: At the risk of sounding like an informercial, I've never been one to follow fad diets or buy exercise books. By chance I found this book being advertised on a display near the checkout (I was waiting while my friend purchased some books). Firstly, the title caught my attention. Then I thumbed through it, thought it looked quite helpful and added it to her pile for me. And I must say, it's probably the best impulse buy I've ever made. Whether you've had an exercise regime for years, or you're just starting out, this book is perfect. At the beginning there are questions provided to determine what regime is best for you based on what your goal is (e.g. weight loss, endurance, toning particular body parts, etc.), how long you have to work out, and what type of exercise you may like best. Then there's room to keep up with your progress. The plans are easy to follow and the prose is simple and hand-holding without being patronising. It's also works well with my gym membership by recommending machines and exercises for my target areas. I've been using the plan I created for myself for 2 months and have lost 15lbs. Now this may not be the type of dramatic weight loss you get with fad diets, but it suits me fine as I'm now in a routine I can manage for a long time and I feel more accomplished having dropped the weight naturally through hard work and slight diet adjustments (I still eat my Ben & Jerry's!). Most importantly, unlike with fad diets, my endurance has improved. Before this I couldn't run for 5mins, literally. Now I run for at least 30mins every other day. If you've got discipline to follow through with what you start, then this book is brilliant!
