Rating: Summary: One of the best books for encouragement... Review: ...besides the Bible, I found this book by Jan Christiansen to be extremely encouraging in my struggle with weight. The book is nicely written; very honest and is a perfect companion for anyone in Weigh Down.
Rating: Summary: A disappointment for me, but will obviously help SOME people Review: I bought both this book and Gwen Shamblin's Weigh Down Diet at the same time, and didn't end up finishing either one. I found Christiansen to be more sincere and down to earth than Shamblin, and she does tell a number of diet stories that are easy to relate to. However, the major problem I had with both these books is the continual mention of "obedience to God" (in adhering to this plan) and the assertion that "overeating is a sin." Well, yes, I agree that overeating is WRONG, but a SIN? The vehemence with which such proclamations are made, in addition to the heavy guilt burden applied to these principles, are, I have to admit, rather SCARY to me, instead of inspiring. They made God seem like a cult leader, rather than an understanding, merciful Father. Reading these books gave me a new-found appreciation for my religious faith, my clergy, and the true words and meanings contained in the Bible (NOT the out-of-context distortions of the Word that these women use for the sake of supporting this diet plan). And Ms. Christiansen seems to be in such total misery in living on this plan each day, as though she's on a continual hunger strike, that you find yourself feeling sorry for her and wanting to feed her. I guess the Weigh Down Diet would be helpful to those who either weren't raised under an organized religion or, if they were, were unhappy with what were taught, and prefer a more modern-day interpretation of spirituality, but for those like myself who are very happy with our religious faith, I feel now, more than ever, that turning to the Bible and prayer - rather than such questionable diet theories - is the only true and honest way I will accomplish my weight loss goal.
Rating: Summary: Great companion through the 'Desert of Testing' Review: I have been looking for Jan's website for months. It's great to see this book published. Being that the "Weigh Down Workshop" is such a special program, it's good to see God working in Jan to bring a book such as this into the world. It's like having your best friend share their success. It gives you hope. God bless you Jan, and I wish you the best of luck in reaching your goals, both in your relationshiop with GOD and in weigh loss.
Rating: Summary: A must read for all Weigh Down Workshop Participants Review: I purchased this book based on a recommendation from Amazon.com after I purchased Gwen Shamblin's "Weigh Down Diet." I read and re-read the pages of the book each day! I have shared my pleasure with all of my "Weigh Down" buddies and each one has purchased a copy for themselves!
Rating: Summary: Internet Bookwatch (Midwest Book Review) Review: Jan Christiansen has written an extremely inspirational book which will offer you guidance, encouragement and laughter. Using the principles of the Weigh Down Diet Jan has offered a more personal account of what it is like to put your focus on God rather than food. If you can put it down before reading all the amusing and inspiring anecdotes you can use it as a daily devotional or read one or two applicable entries when you are struggling. Each entry contains a bible verse, a tip for the day and Jan's journal entry. This book is one of my new favorites. It would make a great conpanion gift with the Weigh Down Diet by Gwen Shamblin.

Rating: Summary: Perfect Companion on the Trip From Egypt to the Promice Land Review: Jan's book is truly a tribute to to the power of God, Weigh Down Workshop, and Gwen Shamblin. Her personal insight and wacky sence of humor have encouraged me on my walk through the Desert of Testing and challenged me to be obedient in the area of food! Thank you Jan for sharing what God has taught you on your own personal journey!
Rating: Summary: So Encouraging! Review: Jan's Book, More of Him, Less of Me, is for real people who are going through the trials of losing weight. Here is an author who is blessed with a great deal of insight, encouragement and a wacky sense of humor. I highly recommend it as a companion book to the Weigh Down Diet by Gwen Shamblin.
