Review: Hi,
I just read this book and was favorably surprised. The negative reviews in here do not seem to be accurate. For example, one review says that only 15% of the book dealt with IBS. This is NOT true. 2/3 of the book discusses IBS directly and the rest helps distinguish between other diseases and IBS. This is exactly what is in the title.
I called the company with a question. They were very helpful and knowledgeable. Their web site is www.urpublishers.com and the phone number is on the front page. I think they are under new ownership and may explain why my experience was so good.
This book may be basic in some ways, but it certainly is accurate. It is an excellent primer on the subject and deserves strong consideration. It gave my daughter three new treatments to try. Two of the treatments really helped. That is what we wanted.

Summary: Give the guy a break
Review: I've read at least 10 other books on IBS, and this is one of the best. Not the least of its attributes is the extremely user-friendly prose. He writes to insure the consumer will understand anatomy, the digestive tract, the chemical-emotional-biological processes involved in IBS and a number of related ailments. And it's not just another general survey. He gives recommendations that are realistic, sensible, and helpful. Believe me, you could do far worse and spend a lot more than to begin with this book and, in fact, to end with it. I'm not sure what all of the previous negative reviewers are carping about--complaints about the distribution of the book that have nothing to do with its content and belly-aching that the book isn't focused enough. (IBS is a "syndrome," madam!) This is a book that is, above all, highly readable and written by someone who is tuned in. He won't bore you, nor will he waste your time. Don't be misled by preceding reviews. If he does, Amazon will refund your money.

Summary: Sorry I bought it
Review: Not only is this book a waste of money but its title is so misleading that borders on the fraudulent. Only about 15% of the book deals with the puported subject (IBS). The only thing you are going to learn from this Handbook is that you should not smoke, take caffeine, drink alcoholic beverages or eat fat and sugar. And then only on general health priciples, not because this regime would be particularly helpful in alleviating the IBS syntoms. What a take!

Summary: The Irritable Bowel Synfrome Handbook
Review: This book is a life saver if you have IBS. It covers the condition in every way and gives great suggestions about foods and exercise. The author makes it easy to read, just like he is talking to you.
Check out the section on fiber, it will surprise you.
