Rating: Summary: This is a must have book for clinicians working with OCD Review: Gail Steketee is one of the formost researchers in the field of OCD and its treatment. Her book serves as an excellent handbook for any clinician who treats this disorder. Most clinicians seem to think OCD is rare but it is prehaps the 4 th most common psychiatric disorder, more common then schizophrenia or panic disorder. The treatment of OCD with cognitive behavioral methods has been found to be highly effective ( superior to medication alone) and to have lasting results. More traditional talk therapy has not been found useful in treatment of OCD. For any clinician who treats OCD the critical steps in applying cognitive behavioral therapy are well laid out. Even the clinician with little or no backround in cognitive behavioral methods should be able to follow this book.
