Review: This subject (Solution Focused Brief Therapy) has applications far beyond the field of mental health. I work in the area of retirement planning, and was introduced to SFBT about two years ago. Since then, I have noticed a significant spike in my production. However, the improvement in relationships with clients and the sense of trust that they put into the relationship today has been the thing that impressed me the most. Rather than being "solution forced", which is where most sales people spend their time, I have become "solution focused". I'm happier, because I feel far more honest about what I do, and my clients are happier. Instead of tyring to manipulate the sales process, it has become a process of 'leading' prospects and clients into doing what is ultimately best for their situation.

This book summarizes the entire concept of SFT in just under 100 pages. Think of it as the 'one-minute-SFT-primer' and you are almost there. This is light, mostly non-technical reading, presented with enough humor to keep anyone interested. However, Sharry et al have not skimped on concept. The authors have taken years of research, going all the way back to Dr. Albert Ellis' work on Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy and distilled it into a quick, useful handbook that can be read in a weekend, applied immediately to your field of work, and used as a reference over and over again. It is filled with practice exercises and sample dialogs to help both the experienced 'problem focused' therapist and the 'solution forced' sales person shift quickly and painlessly to this new way of client service thinking.

If you are involved in a sales process of any kind, I think you will find that this book will greatly expand your business. Other professions can utilize the SFT method too, and teachers will find this book especially useful. Almost anyone who is involved with the public will find that this is a very good addition to their personal library. And, if you have children, this book is a definite MUST OWN.
