Summary: Excellent source of sensible information
Review: Ross Hall presents nutrition in a sound and sensible way. Although the previous reviewer said he couldn't find "organic" food where he lives, the Halls and I live in a very rural area and find plenty of it. I know them and seeing is believing. Both Ross and his wife, Anne, are extraordinary examples of their advice on nutrition and health.

They helped my son with his mountain bike racing and their advice helped him finish and place in a grueling world cup race. Since I started feeding my family their way, our health and energy has been profoundly affected in a most positive way.

I can't recommend this book more highly! It is organized in a easy-to-use format making it easy to find information on the subject you need now.

Ross Hall is one of the most highly respected nutritionist in the world and far more informed than a RD.

This is advice that can save your life.

Summary: The Unofficial Guide To Smart Nutrition
Review: The book I always wanted Ross because no one else would-- could, this book serves as a starting point for anyone who wants to stay healthy, energetic, rightfull youthful & lithe. Offering the first "cell's eye view" of what the body needs and how to eat for those requirements without compliction and without spillover to body fat, as a former model I was grateful for Dr. Hall's unique insight. Now a results oriented energy specialist in sports, I know there's no way to trade fat for winning endurance without superb maintenance of health-- easy when you learn how to select food for a positive impact on cell machinery as this book explains.

Summary: some good, some bad
Review: There are some good things about this book, and some bad.

The good:

Ranks food quality. The authors have 4 levels of food quality with 1 being the best. For example, vegetables: level 1 -- fresh and raw; level 2 -- fresh, lightly steamed or cooked; level 3 -- frozen; and level 4 -- canned

Recognizes that the government's "food pyramid" was influenced by the meat and dairy industry. This book is not the only source I've heard this from.

The bad:

Too much emphasis on organic foods. I live in a rural area and these are hard to find. While organic foods are probably worth the extra cost, there is no regulated meaning of "orgsnic" so you don't know if you're getting what you're paying for.

The authors, while no doubt experts in their fields, do not include a registered dietition (RD). While the authors include a biochemist, a physician, and nutrion educators, all of which have advanced degrees, I think it would have been appropriate to have someone whose job it is to advise patients on nutrition and diet modification.

Summary: This book changed my life.
Review: This book is the most complete nutrition book I have read. So many people are willing to rely on the government to provide them with accurate information about the foods they eat. This book provides the inside scoop on what you are really eating, and how it is benefitting or harming you and your health. It is easy to understand, and the information sticks with you anytime you enter a grocery store and are tempted to fill your cart with highly processed food. This book has definately changed my life and my health!

Summary: probably best nutrition book in past few years
Review: This was an excellent and comprehensive book on nutrition. It is written and reviewed by reputable sources. It covers all important areas of nutrition such as supplements, vitamins, minerals, fat, sugar, diets, sports nutrition, and how to avoid diseases like cancer, heart disease, etc. It includes a lot of practical information like how to buy nutritious foods at the store, how to read labels, how to cook nutritiously, and how to eat-out nutritiously. I found this book very well written and very understandable. I reviewed many of the nutrition books released in the last few years, and I think this is definately one of the best, if not the best.
