Rating: Summary: Excellent for the very sensitive seeker Review: Do you recall which books had a profound effect on you and still look for the other one yet to come which might still open another crack in the cocoon engulfing you? This can be the one but you will have to be already on the Path on Meditations and Inner work to be able to go through and through clearing the emotions has they come up. definately it's not for the ordinary reader who wants Instant Enlightment ; this book is very detailed as how to Integrate level of feelings one by one until the climax of Integration comes..which needs a super level of awareness for that.I would definately love to do this step one by one integration with John Ruskan in his classes ,but not reading about it. Iam an ordinary reader who has been transformed by books like by Sanaya Roman ,Krishnarmurti, and lately Margaret Paul.
Rating: Summary: Enthralling! Review: Emotional Clearing is my bible! Truly an amazing work. I have read it three times, and each time I read it I learn something new.
Rating: Summary: Accept your feelings Review: From his hands-on experience with both Eastern and Western traditions, New York psychotherapist John Ruskan has come up with a pragmatic synthesis of Eastern spiritual practices and Western psychotherapy. In addition to his formal academic training in psychology, Ruskan undertook practical training in yoga, first with Yogi S.A. Ramiaah, and later with Yogi Amrit Desai, founder of the Kripalu ashram. Ruskan's principal conclusion from his extended period of practice is that spiritual endeavors will succeed only if they are firmly based on the nitty-gritty work of dealing with suppressed emotions. Ruskan believes -- as do proponents of Arthur Janov's primal therapy movement and the many contemporary breathwork and rebirthing schools -- that the essence of inner work consists of freeing suppressed, painful emotions. In order for full healing to take place, these difficult feelings must first be brought into awareness, then accepted and loved, and finally integrated into the individual's consciousness. For Ruskan, an important technique for achieving this integration is a form of connected breathing he learned, under the name kriya yoga, from his teacher S.A. Ramiaah. In Ruskan's approach to psychotherapy this conscious, connected breathing is continued until a cathartic, healing release takes place. Ruskan's book gives detailed instructions for carrying out this breathwork, together with instructions for a few key visualization exercises. Ruskan further recommends the use of certain yoga asanas as tools for investigating and releasing emotional holding patterns. A few simple postures -- such as Seated Forward Bend and Headstand -- are each held for a period of one to five minutes, during which time the student breathes easily and focuses on the feelings that come up. Ruskan selects the recommended postures based on their connection with the chakras -- the energy "wheels" or centers within the body. As in some forms of Buddhist vipassana meditation, Ruskan also advises that the healthiest approach to dealing with emotions such as fear or anger is simply to "be with" them. In particular, he counsels clients to beware of their own attempts to intellectualize away these difficult emotions. Even affirmations must be used with care, since these, too, can become a further attempt to suppress difficult and unwanted feelings. Ruskan's book is full of useful insights into emotional healing, and deserves a wide audience among both psychotherapists and yogis alike.
Rating: Summary: "Emotional Clearing" will change the way you view your life. Review: Having read many self-help books, one tends to become jaded after a while--after all, it seems to work for the writer, but doesn't really work for the reader, right? Not this book. "Emotional Clearing" is the most life-changing book I have ever read to date. The author, John Ruskan, writes in simple terms which, at the same time, seem so important, how can they be this simple? Yet, this book works, his writing works, his method works. Surprise! And, even better, the methods he teaches the reader are easy to do, understand, and continue long after you finish it. That is what sets this book apart from others: the extended use of its methods to accomplish real life change. Warning: After reading this book, never again can the reader in all honesty blame others or even him/herself again! And please don't read it unless you want real change in your life, and don't recommend it to anyone else you don't want to see change. Just keep going along the way you are now and forget this book! I'm glad I didn't
Rating: Summary: Profoundly Helpful Review: I am not sure Western culture has ever known what to do with the most sensitive among us. This book is destined to be a catalyst for discovering effective and compassionate ways to embrace the artists, mystics, philospohers, poets and free spirits among us. Though Ruskan's techniques are universally applicable I believe they reach the level of the profound in his sensitivity to the inner process of the spiritual seeker and/or artist. He offers hope, compassion and inspired guidance that is appropriate for the brave who search for God only to enter into a dark night of the soul as well as for sensitive artists struggling for equilibrium in the dark and light landscape of their unconscious. Ruskan directs us to a new inner-territory where dark feelings are actually honored in a way that is healthy to the human organism, thus allowing more and more light to come through as a natural attribute of the human soul. This becomes a metaphor for the entire healing process of the planet. Truly is begins with the individual. How do we honor and accept? How do we stop acting out on our negative impulses? How do we heal authentically?
Rating: Summary: how to finally take the brakes off Review: I bought this book six years ago and unfortunately at the time only scanned through it, not absorbing some of the main points presented in the early chapters. I recently picked it up again, this time with much more dilegence, and now have made rapid progress. Heres a book of the spiritual nature that does much more than the usual lip service of "dont suppress" your emotions found in many other self-help books. Spiritual traditions that I have studied do little release the brakes; they focus instead on going forward, which is all imaginary if you cant first get your foot untied.
Rating: Summary: You have everthing you need inside of yourself Review: I have used the focusing technique that John Ruskan so eloquently describes in his book. Be aware that it does take some effort, commitment and time. But I agree with the other people who have reviewed John Ruskan's book and say that his technique will change your life. I know that sounds like a paid advertisement, but try the technique over a period of time and see if you don't agree. Not only will you no longer feel like a victim but you will realize that you have everything you need to change and heal inside of yourself. I have recently started using a similar technique, General Sensate Focusing, which I now prefer. The complete book is located on several websites maintained by Dr. Ilan Shalif. Everything I have said about John Ruskan's book applies equally to the technique taught by Dr. Shalif. It is just a matter of preference and convenience as you can print Dr. Shalif's book off one of his websites.

Rating: Summary: Begin the begin... Review: This book is a great tool to understanding the patterns of the human condition. I have read many interesting books about how we make our lives miserable, but what we are striving for is a book that shows us how to change it. It must be hard to write a book like Emotional Clearing because you want to promise the world without telling people they'll need to bend over backwards to get the results... Anyway, it's nice to know that John Ruskan's theories are mirrored in other brilliant pieces of transformational writing. It'd be great if it was enough to know he's not pulling our leg. Unfortunately, what we need is a window to open so we can begin the journey and not feel as though all of it lies far beyond our grasp... Read the book, do the work and the results will come. I have to believe...
Rating: Summary: Extraordinary Insight and Real Results Review: This is truly an extraordinary book for any spiritual seeker. I have read literally hundreds of books on transformational psychology and Eastern spirituality, but this work is both superior and more applicable to daily life. Ruskan describes in detail a transformational path that you can commence immediately and if you follow his instructions, meaning not to analyze, blame or intellectually mediate, you will experience the liberating effects of this meditative approach. It is groundbreaking!
