Review: Pett's work on nonparametric statistics is, without doubt, the best book available on nonparametric statistics. I have always been a champion of Siegel's classic. But Pett has an easy way of introducing each statistical procedure, explaining the mechanisms behind the procedure, clarifying the utilisation of the test, linking nicely with SPSS (albeit now a rather outdated version) and - best of all - gives guidelines for reporting the results. Pett's writing style is very accessible and precise - how nice to find a social worker who knows about statistics! Even novice researchers will find this book understandable. Check out her other work on factor analysis for a similarly outstanding work.
