Rating: Summary: Insane. Review: An example story from this book; mama gena has a woman in her class who targeted a wealthy man for daddy material. Once she had the baby, she divorced him. Then she asks him to pay for her to go to school. Mama's take on this was that the man was happy to do so, because women are goddesses whom men live to serve and he wants her to be happy. Reading between the lines, I'll bet the man was happy to do anything to get rid of the golddigging you-know-what. The most ridiculous interpretations in this book, however, involve mama and her husband. Mama says that her books are a way to get men to do what you want them to, and yet in every story she tells, her husband gets his way. She moves to great neck with him instead of him moving where she wants. He insists they keep dating other people during their courtship. And what does mama do? Convince herself that she got what she wanted. This book is an exercise in pure delusion.
Rating: Summary: Inane and insulting ... to women! Review: Being deployed in Iraq where pleasure is hard to find, I found it to be just the thing to push me to keep my joy. It isn't all about sex, and it takes a narrow minded fool to think that. It is about pleasing yourself as a woman. And being a "woman" is sexual, as well as just a description of gender. I don't know about everyone else, but I've never been happy trying to fit my cute little self into the male ideal of a woman in the army. I'm not a sexless, macho, wannbe guy. I'm a smart, sassy, leadership capable woman. So finding a book that tells me I can have my cake and eat it too was a great thing for me. And even though I'm not a sex crazed ..., I'm a sweet flirt. And what could be wrong with a book that encourages women to find their real desires??? Not a darned thing. I loved this book, and I recommend it to every woman who wants to own her happiness instead of wait for it!
Rating: Summary: i hate pink Review: buy yourself presents, believe that you're a goddess (I guess this means you will never die? Yay!), flirt a lot and men will pay more attention to you. Scintillating. Brilliant. Did anyone not know this stuff?
Rating: Summary: Inane and insulting ... to women! Review: Do we really need Mama Gena? Let me put this plainly: this book sucks. Moreover, her message, as in her first book, implies that if only women were crotch-centered, boa donning, feel-good pleasure seekers, all their problems would magically go away and the world would be uplifted. Give me a break!!! This is an insidious message. So let me see if I get it right... if only the millions of women who have suffered violence or depression or experience real pain in their lives would start wearing a boa and thinking happy goddess / crotch thoughts everything would be just great. Mama Gena lives in a fake world and her views are superficial, trite and insulting to women. Don't waste your money is right. Moreover, in my humble opinion, women who care about the plight of real women should boycott her products.
Rating: Summary: A Surprising, Uplifting Romp of a Read! Review: I just felt good reading this book. With her unique style, candor, and warmth, Mama Gena is at once likeable. The chapters are breezy and fun, and her illustrative stories are hilarious and easy to relate to. She delivers a message that women should love and take care of themselves - without sounding like some cheezy Calgon commercial - and allow men to take care of them, too - without sounding antiquated or steeped in religious biases.
That said, I was quite skeptical of many suggestions and exercises given in this book. My sensibilities just couldn't believe men could be so easily... well... manipulated. Surely, they'd see right through it - and besides, wouldn't it be insulting to play games with them, as though they were children?
Still... Mama is immensely beguiling, and the success stories listed in every chapter were hard to ignore. She points out that it's all in fun, and after all, her world may be full of games, but in love and laughter, everyone wins. So, I took a deep breath and decided to give the exercises a try - just for the sake of experimenting. Which is all she asks.
And wouldn't you know it, I saw changes within 24 hours! Suddenly, it began to dawn on me that maybe everything isn't always his fault... that maybe my constant unhappiness, deep-seated anger, and non-stop criticizing could be (gasp!) contributing to the unhappiness in my 3-year relationship. I thought back on the times when we've been the happiest, and realized they were times when I was feeling and doing much of what Mama Gena suggests. Only now I can be aware of what's happening, why it works, how to make it work for me. I think her sweet, funny way of empowering women to ask for more, relish life more, and play more could be a catalyst in the lives of many hurting women today. And her insights into men and what makes them tick are nothing short of genius.
I'm buying a copy for my sister, a copy for my best girlfriend, and her other books for me.
Rating: Summary: So Many Truisms Review: I loved this book! Mama Gena had me laughing out loud on nearly every page. The book is so hilarious, entertaining and full of wisdom learned through her own and others misadventures in relationship building with men. This is a self help book that is a pleasure to read and offers great hope for building real, loving and fun lifetime relationships with men. I'm reccommending it to all my friends.
Rating: Summary: a real boost! Review: I recommend reading Mama's books in order - first the "Guide to Womanly Arts" and then the "Owners and Operators Manual." Gone are the days of waiting around for the white knight to come and kiss women awake; Mama Gena, with her slightly outrageous and super-frank prose, figuratively bops us on the head and tells us to wake ourselves up! She encourages us to be secure in our needs, our wants, and above all, our femininity... and the result is inner beauty that spills over onto the outside. This radical book is not for the faint of heart, nor is it for the closed-minded! As a matter of fact, the truly closed-minded will probably hate this book. However, if you are open to change and trying a new tack on life, then I encourage future Sister Goddesses to pick up this book and read it cover-to-cover!!
Rating: Summary: Blah blah blah Review: I think the author is so enamored with her hipness, that she has convinced a wimpy editor to not edit out all the crap, crap, crap. Horrid, boring, blathering writing. She goes on, and on, and on. She could say what she means in half the words. Waste of time to read this. (Must she continue with the "yo mama" and the "goddess" this and that-- and Grrrr can't stand her)
Rating: Summary: please do not waste your money Review: If you want to know how popular "Mama" is with guys, then this is the book for you. If you are looking for any substance, then I suggest you keep looking. I can sum up the book in 3 points for you ladies who might think of buying it: 1. Think about your crotch a lot 2. Ask for what you want, say thank you when you get it 3. Mama Gena wants you to know how successful she is at oozing sex appeal, by smiling prettily at men, while thinking about her crotch. This book is so silly, I was actually wondering if it was a 'spoof' of self-help books.
Rating: Summary: The book is SO amazing! Review: Who would have thought that one book could provide so many insights and so many keys into our relationships with men? But, here it is. The "Owner's and Operator's Guide" is not limited to only a few key concepts. Literally each and every page offers new and relevant information that every woman can put into action and have fantastic relationships with the men in our lives. I raced through this book in my first read, pausing only to laugh, because Mama truly does have a unique and hilarious way with words. And also to cry, when I was moved by a new realizations, such as when Mama talks about acknowledgement, as well as anger, and I could really see how that had been impacting my relationships. This is a "guide" in the true sense of the word. Mama Gena provides very practical and expert viewpoints on communication and man training, but it does not stop there. She includes exercises and checklists throughout the book which are enormously empowering. By putting these fundamentals into action, I believe that a great relationship, is now not only possible, but inevitable. Thank you, Mama Gena, for your inspiration!!
