Summary: 50th Anniversary of this book is out. Great Data!
Review: "Michael Crichton" must have read a different book. There is no mention of "clams." Instead, a concise intelligent overview of the prediction of human behavior. When she says I love you, what is she saying, really?

An excellent chart that lays out how to "read" others is also invaluable. Comes with a free home extension course, too. Not bad!

Summary: Ticked-Off For Two Days...
Review: Human behavior: There is a chapter on a person's speech--talking and listening. There is a strata that is filled with a-holes that I only saw the social veneer of. Studying this took me behind the veil and to this pile of crap called "people" and, well, you have to read it. I took these people seriously for years and they drove me CRAZY! Expletive! Expletive! Expletive! Well, live and learn. My life changed forever and people who are of the a-hole strata don't like this book, obviously. Tools, tools, tools. I've read it twice, done the extension course, and plan to read it at least two more times before I die. It's my favorite Dianetics book. (It's also a great doorstop.)

Summary: Science of Survival-Saved my Company
Review: I recently reread "Science of Survival" by L. Ron Hubbard and realized that most of my success in business has been because of the information that I have put to use out of this book...P>This book, "Science of Survival", showed me what my clients were thinking, what my banker was really up to, what my VP of Operations was about to do before he did it and what a great wife my girl friend was going to be, (and is).

Mr. Hubbard wrote this book the year before I was born, in it he detailed exactly what to expect or to look out for, from everyone that I have ever met.

What a joy it was to reread this "survival guide", it saved my company on more then one occation and I have made many millions of dollars by applying this information in business and life.

Rereading it, I also spotted areas of my life that I hadn't taken control of and why.

To perdict human behavior, as Mr. Hubbard understands and outlines, gives you a fighting chance at survival in this dog eat dog world which we live in.

It is as if Mr. Hubbard went through a mine field and flagged all of the mines in life prior to my entry.

Summary: An advanced text on human behavior
Review: Science of Survival is a complete reference work describing human emotions and behavior. The book offers an exhaustive description of the various emotional states, how they can be recognized and how resulting behavior can be predicted.

A full understanding of the material in this book gives the reader the knowledge to maneuver the landmines of interpersonal relations and not be the victim of "surprising" behavior in those around him.

If you would like to know why people are acting as they do and what you can do about it, you should study this book and apply the data contained therein. I have and am a better father and husband because of Science of Survival.

Summary: Science of Survival: Terrific tool!
Review: Science of Survival is even better than Dianetics, which it followed. I have used the data in this book to keep my life on a stable footing and to help those I love recover from life's occasional upsets. Very well written. And appreciated!

Summary: Not recommended
Review: While neither debating, nor even criticizing, the socio-political assertions L. Ron Hubbard makes in Science of Survival: Prediction of Human Behavior, a working knowledge of them may help you to decide if this is the book for you.

First, Mr. Hubbard asserts that there are only two ways of handling people who fall at 2.0 or below on Mr. Hubbard's "tone scale" (this includes gays and lesbians, who are at level 1.1). The first is raising them on the tone scale by "unenturbulating some of their theta". The second is to "dispose of them quietly and without sorrow." (See page 157, section 1)

Later in the same paragraph, he tells a story about a Venezuelan dictator, who, wanting to eradicate leprosy in his country, notices that many of the lepers in his country were also beggars, and decides to round up all the beggars and destroy them. By this "simple expedient" he puts an end to leprosy in Venezuela. It's not clear what Mr. Hubbard intends to teach by citing this act of genocide. (See page 157, section 1)

On page 119, Mr. Hubbard informs us that any society in which women are taught anything but (anything and but being italicized by the author) family management, the care of men, and the creation of the coming generations, "is a society which is on its way out." (Page 119, section 1) Later in this paragraph, Mr. Hubbard asserts that historians can pinpoint when a society begins to degenerate by finding the exact point where women begin operating on an equal footing with men in the business and political realms.

Whatever its sociological and political themes, the book is also rambling, poorly thought-out and poorly executed. Not recommended.
