Rating: Summary: Comprehensive and complete Review: An easy to read and follow program of exercise and training for all levels. I especially appreciated the innovative stretching routines and running/walking workouts.I have a treadmill at my office and thanks to this book I have a greater appreciation of it's strengths as an exercise and conditioning tool.
Rating: Summary: Straight Forward Review: As a fitness proffesional I'm thrilled to see a book that truly addresses the treadmill as the easiest and most successful medium for most people to reach their fitness goals. The guidelines put fourth in this book are simple to understand and easy to follow. If you own a treadmill you should own this book.
Rating: Summary: A beneficial book...full of solid information and guidance! Review: I found this book to be ideal for my whole family. From my father and mother who will appreciate the stretching, walking and nutrition chapters, to myself who likes to sprint and run, the book has something for everyone. Though I have never run a marathon (though I have run a 1/2 marathon), if I do, I will use this book. I use the treadmill for interval training and have already seen improvements in my speed and endurance.
Rating: Summary: Not as expected Review: I wish I had taken a previous reviewer to heart before I purchased this book. I found Alberto's Salazar's book was very weak regarding using a treadmill for exercising. Casey Meyers book on walking was much more useful.
Rating: Summary: LD runner Review: I would not have purchased this book if I had been able to preview it at our library. It is more of a pamphlet than a book. If Precor included it with the purchase of it's treadmills OK, but don't pay for it.
Rating: Summary: Precor Presents Alberto Salazar Treadmill Training & Workout Review: I've been running for about 18 years and always wondered if I was doing it properly or getting the most out of it. I could never find a book, other than training for a marathon, to help me. Salazar's training book was very motivational. I knew I fell into the "runners" category; I've incorporated it into my life so that I don't even have to think about working out. It's just a part of my routine every other day. It was interesting to read about the stages a runner goes through, i.e. from beginner, to jogger, to competitor, to athlete and then finally runner. I'm incorporating his stretching exercises and now realize their importance in warding off injury. Also reassuring was the issue about weight and what the scale says. Time to ignore the number! A very helpful book.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: Much of this book has training advice that is not unique to treadmill training. Furthermore, the book is not helpful in its advice on purchasing a treadmill since this book is published by a treadmill manufacturer and is, therefore, in no position to compare brands and give objective advice. This book includes much on marathon training and Salazar basically quotes Jeff Galloway's book on marathoning rather than offer his own advice. The marathon training advice does not explain how the traedmill should be incorporated into the training. Personally, I think Bob Glover's book, "The Competitive Runner's Handbook" gives better information in it's chapter on traedmill's than does this entire book. Treadmill training can be tedious as there is no change of scenery as in outdoor running so, I had hoped that this book would have included more on interesting workouts and games to overcome the tedium. To the book's credit, however, there is a fair amount of information on walking and cross training programs.
Rating: Summary: INFOMERCIAL Review: Okay, I'm sure this book meant well. But I think it's a little simplistic and repetitive. Nothing in it that I haven't thought of on my own. In fact, not even as much as I have thought of on my own. I think you'd get just as good tips going to runners pages or chat rooms. I think this was a way for the author to make a few bucks.
Rating: Summary: LD runner Review: This is a well written book that is intended for the person who plans to take treadmill workouts very seriously. It's not aimed at the ordinary person who wants a workout program to acheive good health and cariovascular fitness. It is also heavy handed in it's message selling Precor fitness products. It's irritating and distracting. If you plan to run in a marathon, there are some good workout schedules. But a beginner or someone with little workout experience should keep looking in other places.
