Counseling As an Art: The Creative Arts in Counseling

Review: The back of the book states that you will be able to use many different techniques in counseling after reading the book. However, the book gives you brief descriptions of techniques. It does not tell you how to initiate the activities or what to do with the information once you have it. The book does, however, provide you with references of authors you can refer to in order to find more information on particular areas in creative arts counseling. I would suggest, going to a book store, finding this book, noting the references in the sections which interest you and buying their book.
Unless you just want an in-depth description of what creative arts counseling is all about, do not waste your money. The only section which you may be able to benefit from without further research is the section on literature and counseling. But even with that section, you do not learn ways to carry out the various exercises; the exercises themselves are simple enough to make up methods of your own after reading (e.g. having client write an autobiography).
