Rating: Summary: 5 years too late! Review: I read this book after seeing the author on the "Today" Show this past summer. She presented such a sensitive and personal portrayal of menopause, a subject I had chosen to overlook while my wife was going through the change of life a few years ago. That led me to read the book in hopes of gaining an understanding and empathy for what my wife had gone through. The book indeed gave me an insight into issues such as hot flashes, headaches and lowered libido, so much so that I now wish my wife and I had read this book while she was menopausal. The non-HRT analysis in the book would have been important to her - the empathy gained from understanding the issue of menopause would be important to any significant other!
Rating: Summary: Read this book - share this book! Review: I've been around long enough that I can remember when women's health issuse weren't! Thanks to other women, prolonging our good health and successfully navigating menopause is getting easier. Now that the paramenopausal stage has been identified and is being written about in books like Posner's, "One Woman's Natural Journey..." we have more reliable information and we can choose to suffer less. Our partners can also welcome our enhanced sexual selves instead of also being expected to just accept our mood swings and physical tribulations. I'm working at enjoying my changes because books like this have allowed me to no longer be a victim to "the change". Posner's information on natural and herbal supplements can be coroborrated in various books and I have found a particular site, iHerb, that offers many links to these sources. I have also found iHerb to be a wonderful and cost effective source for my supplements. Check out their section on Women's Health and see what I mean.
Rating: Summary: Great alternatives to hormone replacement therapy Review: On the advice of my neurologist, I decided not to use HRT for treating menopausal symptoms. But what was my alternative? Let me tell you, I found the answers in this book! I somewhat expected a dry, gloomy narrative on the subject but was extemely pleased to find a witty, easy-to-read, and most important, very informative book on an issue that Trisha tackles with spunk and determination. Thanks, Trisha, for bringing menopause out of the closet!
Rating: Summary: Great useful information on alternatives to HRT Review: What led me to read this book was information on alternative natural treaments of menopausal symptoms. Since her mother had breast cancer, as mine did, Trisha sought alternatives to HRT. This book was very informative to one who is considering alternatives to HRT which alot of gynecologists strongly suggest. It is a very easy read with alot of useful information. I will be suggesting it to alot of my friends. Thanks again, Trish, for writing such a useful tool.
