Summary: The Truth about Sex...
Review: As a high school teacher, I highly recommend this book to teens and to parents who are wrestling with how to approach the issue of sex.

Kristen Anderson takes a refreshingly human approach to an ever-pressing issue. She gets at the emotional side of teen sex by quoting high school girls' poignant thoughts and ideas. In this way, Anderson stresses self-worth and self-esteem, rather than addresses purely religious, scientific, or health-related reasons for choosing abstinence. This reality-based approach guides young women to remember what is truly important: themselves. Using frank language, Anderson dispells myths and clarifies in explicit detail. She also provides strategies and alternatives, and takes some of the bite out of peer pressure that is so pervasive in today's high schoolers' lives.

Sex fascinates. We all want to know more! I have watched students pore over the pages of this book, just as they pore over teen mags (that tend to offer advise for improving one's existing sex life). If you seek to educate yourself (or your teenage daughter) about the realities of valuing yourself and of high school sex, I highly recommend that you take a look at this perspective.

Summary: The Truth about Sex...
Review: I work with teen girls and many women who are in crisis pregnancies. I have long looked for a book, which so very aptly defines the emotional impact of having sex before you are in a committed relationship and the destruction it causes emotionally. I see girls daily who have had sex purely due to peer pressure and regret their decisions. I am so very grateful that Ms. Anderson has taken the time to put into words the feelings I have tried to express to my girls for many years. It isn't always "don't have sex, because... STD's, pregnancy risk, not in God's plan, etc." These teens/women need to know it is ok not to have sex for ALL and ANY of the right reasons. Every parent with teens, who is a mentor to teens, who knows friends with teens and every teen - boys and girls should read this book!

Summary: Review of 'The Truth About Sex by High School Senior Girls'
Review: Ms. Anderson's book is highly readable and well-written, and covers a broad range of issues that teenage girls face concerning sex. Through the voice of her students and her own commentary, she tells the frank reality and the unintended consequences of indulging in sexual relations outside the commitment of marriage; while at the same time, she offers hope and encouragement to teenage girls who regret having engaged in sexual activity. I appreciate her logical, honest, and caring approach to addressing emotional and physical issues associated with sex outside of marriage, and her encouragement of abstinence as a way of avoiding heartbreaking situations and of building strong, committed relationships.
