Rating: Summary: Just what I've been looking for! Review: As an exercise physiologist, I highly suggest that any of my clients preparing for pregnancy read Before your Pregnancy. It provides sound exercise and nutritional guidelines in a straightforward and easy to follow manner. Thank you, Amy, for presenting this very important information in such a simple, doable way.
Rating: Summary: A very introductory set Review: I agree that Before Your Pregnancy can be helpful, if any experience with nutrition or a healthy lifestyle is limited. It covers the basics, but doesn't help too much with specifics. But the fact that it puts the responsiblity of parenting, before and during pregnancy, in the hands of mother and father is perhaps the best introduction it can provide.
Rating: Summary: A great resource for anyone who is planning for a pregnancy. Review: My husband and I strongly recommend the Before Your Pregnancy video and booklet! Everyone is full of advice about what to do while you are pregnant, but this video provides equally valuable information about what to do BEFORE you get pregnant. When future moms and dads consider what a big responsibility and undertaking pregnancy is, they will agree that we all need this pre-pregnancy information. As I sit here writing this review, I look over at my happy, healthy 8 week old, and I am VERY thankful that this video and booklet helped us make good decisions about preparing for pregnancy. My husband appreciated the information on what and how much we should be eating, how much exercise we should be getting, and specific things he could do to help with conception. The information continued to be useful because after I became pregnant I was morning sick and my husband could help make sure I was still eating the right things. Before Your Pregnancy is a valuable resource for anyone who is planning to start a family!!!
Rating: Summary: I LOVE TO READ BUT........ Review: This book and video combination is an extremely valuable tool for both men and women to use before they start trying to conceive. It stresses the importance of proper nutrition and excercise in the critical 90 days before conception. For optimal health of your future child, you need to follow a proper diet for 90 days before trying to get pregnant, and the author points out that this is true for both the man and the woman, which is something I hadn't heard before.I was impressed that the author is both a registered dietician and educated and experienced in exercise physiology. She knows her stuff, and that is very apparent in the practical guide described in the booklet. She explains what each partner should do in layman's language. I also liked the accompanying video tape, which is something couples can view periodically for motivation and to keep them on track. This is a great book/video and I highly recommend it to anyone who is considering having a child, or who has had difficulty in getting or maintaining a pregnancy.

Rating: Summary: A very introductory set Review: This package set is very good for what it was intended to be: a very general nutrition and exercise information resource. HOWEVER, if you have a basic knowledge of the food pyramid, exercise, and pregnancy hazards (alcohol, tobacco, caffiene) I would not recommend spending the money. The book is not more in-depth than the video, only six reciepts are included, and only a handful of exercises are available. This package is very limiting in scope. My advice: try your local library first before you buy.
