Summary: a mature overview of a tragic problem
Review: The authors bring the light of reason to an intractable problem. How can any psychotherapist entrenched in his/her own network of personal defensive fantasies comfort any individual who just can't raise those same defenses?

The authors understandably decline to speculate on possible solutions to the problem. I imagine it will be with us as long as there are humans aware of death and helplessness and etc.

But it is an extraordinary relief to find the subject discussed at all. To find it discussed in a scholarly text which is properly documented is a sublime pleasure.
