Rating: Summary: For all women who are thinking about having children... Review: As a pregnant woman a couple weeks from her due date, I found "What If I Have a C-Section?" a real wake-up call about the possibility I might end up with a surgical delivery-which happens at my hospital more than 1 in 5 times (and according to the book, even more often nationwide). Rubin helps sort out the myths from the facts, sneaking in a LOT of scientific information while she keeps the book light and readable. I still hope to avoid a C-section, and now I feel like I have a better idea how to plan for contingencies in labor and what questions to ask my doctor and the hospital staff if vaginal delivery gets stalled or becomes problematic. I'm going to get another copy of the book for a friend who is going to have a scheduled C-section due to medical reasons, because I think the book will be just as useful for her in laying out how the procedure happens, details on recovery, and information on vaginal births in the future once you've had a Cesarean delivery. Really worth reading!
Rating: Summary: Be prepared Review: Even though more women are having c-sections than ever before, I'd prefer not to have one. But, until I happened to come across this book, I didn't think there was much I could do to avoid having a c-section. I found a lot of good advice in this book about what I can do now, early in my pregnancy, to raise my chances of delivering my baby vaginally next summer. And if I do end up needing a c-section after all, I think I'll be better prepared for having read What If I Have a C-Section?, because it goes into a lot of detail about the operation itself and recovery.
Rating: Summary: Love this book Review: I love this book! I bought it the other day in anticipation of the possibility that I might end up with a C-section (and also to understand what my sister had to go through)and read it in 2 days. Rita Rubin approaches the issue in an even-handed fashion that presents information without trying to make an argument for or against. Filled with real life scenarios, the book is fresh, factual, and sometimes funny! Well worth reading!
Rating: Summary: An informative read Review: I purchased this book and found it to be a fact-packed and easy ready, full of helpful but not preachy information. I also happen to work with Rita, so I know first-hand that she brings trusted expertise to the topic. Valuable reading for any pregnant woman about what to expect, the risks and benefits of the procedure, and how to face recovery.
Rating: Summary: Very helpful insurance "just in case" Review: This book proved more helpful than I could have imagined! I ended up having an emergency C-section and was glad that I had reviewed this book in advance. Afterwards, I didn't have a lot of free time to read, but this book proved succinct and easy to reference with my "now what?" questions.
