Summary: A Sisters Healing Together Pick!
Review: I'm the founder of Sisters Healing Together, a peer suport group for wimmin survivors of incest who suffer from compulsive overeating. I've read dozens of books which have bits of information here and there that I could relate to, but overall I had to make an effor to make the information "mine." This book had a lot of what I sought in one volume. I, and the members of the group, appreciated it very much. Amazon Spirit is the first, and the best of its kind.

Summary: Wonderful, focused, empowering
Review: I've skimmed a lot of different books having to do with personal awareness, self-help, spirituality, psychology, and so on. This book is small but powerful. It provides a daily focus for the overwhelming thoughts, feelings, possibilities, and issues that we have to face as human beings. For those who are interested in growing as people, who realize that the journey is not always an easy one, and who understand that experiencing and facing our truth is important for self-empowerment, wholeness, and well-being--this book can only be an invaluable jewel and tool along the way. It is especially affirming for those of us who are not considered part of the 'norm'--be we lesbian, addicts, people of colour, and/or simply women. However, male or female, straight or gay, this book reveals to one the beautiful wisdom that we often forget that we know deep inside. It's also a lot more succinct than i've been here!

I continue to enjoy this book everyday and am grateful to both the author and to the friend who introduced and lent it to me. Thanks Eleanor! and Cherie!

Summary: Powerful aide to recovery and empowerment!
Review: Ms. Nealy has written a powerful aide for recovering lesbians in this daily meditations book. I would also recommend it for lesbians who do not have a drinking problem or other drug addiction, or any number of other issues addressed by 12-step programs today (food addiction, co-dependency, debting, incest survivors, children of alcoholics, etc., all of which are embraced and included here). Nealy addresses the fact quite openly that lesbians are surviving and flourishing in a world that is often unhelpful at best. Amazon Spirit is a fitting name for this collection of daily readings as she celebrates our spirit--ALL of our spirit--and does not exclude womyn of color, young womyn, old womyn, fat womyn, bi-sexual womyn, etc!!Ms. Nealy has also written about spirituality in a way that is not off-putting for those of us who grew up in families (and a world) where religion is used to deride and defeat us. There are quotes here from female theologians indicating a broad theology that includes earth-centered spirituality. It is clear that Ms. Nealy "walks the walk" instead of only "talking the talk." Her insights are touching and empowering at the same time. I have found myself questioning (does the world really want to kill us?) as well as laughing and sometimes crying in agreement. ("My partner used to say that she didn't care if our teenagers liked doing the dishes; she just wanted the dishes done!" June 22nd) Nealy does not shy away from "the hard stuff" like sexuality and being a dyke in a lesbian-hating world. She just makes it easier to get through each day.
