Summary: Preparation to SURVIVE and understand SURVIVAL strategies
Review: Criminal behavior is not obvious for the average person. This author prepares you to survive extreme situations you never dreamt of or could imagined.

Be prepared.
Never give up. Develop opportunities to survive at the first place.

Highly recommended for undergraduate and graduate students to complement their criminological studies:
Do not only apply theory but understand what can happen to victims/survivors of crime!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Real self-defense
Review: I became aware of this book on a martial art forum. The comments about it made me curious and I ordered it.I don't regret buying this book and I intend to recommend it to my martial art students.Everybody should know about the differences between sport fighting and protecting their lives when confronted to hard criminals without mercy.
It is also a marvelous book about the true powers of the mind and how they can help in semingly hopeless situations.

Summary: This is a MUST read
Review: I teach civilian Self-Defense. I have already purchased 6 copies of this book and gave them to fellow instructors and students.
This book is a no nonsense how-to-guide on surviving a violent attack, heaven forbid you have to. Equally as important he gives simple techniques on how to avoid becoming a victum of a violent attack.
His techniques are simple and instinctual within all of us. We have, for too long, been taught to listen to our assailants, do as they say and we won't get hurt. That is wrong headed and wrong advise. Mr. Strong with decades of police experience tells why and has scenario after scenario of survivors stories. This should be required reading material for all, especially women.

Summary: MUST READ
Review: If you have a family, and you want to protect them, but don't know how...this is the book for you. This book is an easy read in terms of syntax, but this book doesn't hold back. Strong has a hard-line approach to how he presents his self-defense strategies. He doesn't try to sugar coat his information, he explains and retells stories as they are, with graphic detail. If you only get one book on defense in you life, this is the one to get.

Summary: Strong on Truth
Review: My name is John Perkins I am a forensic crime scene expert, former police detective, martial arts master and the author of ATTACK PROOF. I read STRONG ON DEFENSE when it was first published. I found it to be one of the most powerful sources of information for self preservation anywhere. Many authors of self defense books fall far short in detailing how rapes, assaults and most of all abductions actually go down. Mr. Strong gives you prevention strategies as well as serious workable escape strategies. In all of my classes and seminars this is the main book I tout for all to study. If you are a black belt, a cop, or a regular civilian you will benefit greatly. This makes a superior gift for your loved ones. Make sure that you give it at an appropriate occasion. The information is scary but serious. Good luck-----

Summary: Will you spend 11 bucks if it could save your life?
Review: Sanford Strong's uniquely titled book is unique in yet another way: it communicates an entire theory of self-defense using terms, ideas, and tactics that most people would not have ordinarily used in explaining why and how they should defend themselves from attack.
Strong shows--correctly--that most attacks are carried out by recidivists whose one goal (apart from the obvious) is to get away with their crime as cleanly as possible after committing it. This usually involves getting rid of witnesses: yep, you! In so doing, Strong has dispelled a strong myth (usually espoused by the mainstream media and some police persons) concerning attacks and self-defense. Passivity will get you killed, he says. Another myth dispelled early on is thinking that training in a martial arts programme will usually suffice to defend oneself. He correctly points out that most martial arts programmes require many years of dedicated study. Time that most people do not have.
He goes on to outline the steps he recommends anyone faced with armed (or unarmed) attack should take to safeguard themselves. His system is simplicity itself and does not require intense reflection, the best sort. Illustrative stories of ordinary people who were faced with attack and some of the things they did right or wrong pepper the book and is used very effectively to show his system in action.
I heartily recommend this book and urge everyone to study it from cover to cover. A most important work.

Summary: Hard to read, harder not to read
Review: Strong's book is a valiant effort to persuade us that the common mindset regarding violence is the one that will perpetuate it. Turning most everything we have learned up side down, Strong uses his own law enforcement experience and the stories of violent crime survivors to teach lessons that are hard to forget. His graphic descriptions of crimes the victims lived to tell about argue hard for his views that it is possible to maintain control in many criminal activities. I hated reading the book but am very grateful I did. I am teaching my children differently and have made some changes in my life to train myself to be a survivor.

Summary: Run don't walk to get a copy of this book! It is great!
Review: This book is a eye opener. I did not realize that most of us are like lambs going to the slaughter. We don't know the criminal mind and what the Recidivist can do to us without being prepared. This book will tell you how to prepared and gain a mind set solution to violence. The examples in this book are graphic and will show the violent world that is created by only one percent of population the Recidivist.

Summary: This is a MUST read
Review: This book is not about preventing crime, it's surviving a violent crime. Strong does not concentrate on how to avoid being a victim, instead he tells how to survive the confrontation when you became one. This makes sense, since he states that violence is becaming more and more random and you can became a victim, no matter what you do. There is also some advise on avoiding crime, but the emphasis is not on that issue.

The book is filled with stories from real life. The stories - no matter how grim - are interesting to read, and the actions of the victims is analyzed after the story. You learn, what the victims did wrong, and what they did right. This makes the book interesting to read, and the "hard text" is also easy to read.

The principles Strong advocates are very simple and easy to remember, even during a crisis. On some occasions his advise seems somewhat farfetched, but on the other hand, it's better be prepared before something bad happens. At the end of the book, Strong gives his formula of making a safer future. His formula is simply putting the criminals behind bars, and keeping them there.

This is a very important book; everyone should read it. It's really sad that we need books like this, but it's a realistic possibility that you can become a victim. If that happens, this book may hold the answers to your survival.

Summary: Never give up control
Review: This book was recommend by my martial arts instructor. It has very practical suggestions about deciding in advance how to deal with life threating situations. The book will be an easy read for anyone who likes true crime fiction because of the many stories included to illistrate how best to handle dangerous situations. Strong is a bit alarmist at points but no more so than any former police officer who has seen the reality of crime in America. You should especially read this book if you have young children.
