Rating: 5 stars
Summary: the author (editor) is Charles R. Figley, Ph.D.
Review: A classic book that was dedicated to Max Cleland, currently the US Senator from Georgia. The Forward was written by Peter Bourne, MD, the senior White House Advior at the time and expert on war-related stress disorders. This book helped to justify the establishment of the Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) diagnosis, the national outreach program for Vietnam veterans, through the VA's Vet Center Program (readjustment counseling), and national awareness that WAR DOES BAD THINGS to both friend and foe. It should be required reading for policy makers who assume that the war is over when it's over. It is not in the minds of those who experienced it first hand.
