Rating: Summary: A spellbinding narrative on a taboo subject Review: Despite growing national attention to the scourge of prostate cancer, there are no books that deal so openly with the issue of its impact on sexuality. Leon Prochnik has done us all a great service by addressing this issue, and has done it in an astoundingly well-written and engrossing book. With the fearless self-exposure one expects only from the best of authors, Prochnik has provided a guide and an inspiration that extends even to those of us who do not have prostate cancer. A breakthrough experience worth sharing.
Rating: Summary: A great book for women too!! Review: I found myself deeply touched by Leon Prochnik's gutsy, from-the-heart account of his encounter with prostate cancer. In sharing how this much-feared disease affected not only himself but his wonderful wife, Mia, Leon gives the reader the highs, lows, and everything-in-between that occured on this journey. And a great surprise - Leon's narrative is laced with a wonderful sense of humor -something you almost never find in books about cancer. My husband and I drew strength and inspiration from every chapter. And to discover that there is a way for men not only to keep but enhance their sexuality after prostate cancer, wow! If you're a woman who loves her husband, father, brother, son, read this book! And get them to read it too!
Rating: Summary: INFORMATIVE, ENTERTAINING AND MOST OF ALL TOUCHING Review: I must say I approached this book with trepidation considering the subject matter, but within a few pages, I was drawn into this man's compelling story. His journey from the point of discovery through the aftermath of his surgical procedure is highly informative(every alternative is considered), clearly presented yet highly charged(one can imagine the highs and lows one goes through), and most of all you come to know and feel every heartfelt emotion he and his wife faced as a couple. All I can say is, for anyone facing prostrate cancer, whether you be single, married or otherwise, this book is a must read. You will be far the better for it.

Rating: Summary: This should finally open up men. Review: Leon Prochnik's compelling story -- from diagnosis through tormented decision to post-surgical intimacy -- draws the reader into his world. As a healthcare professional and as a 44-year old male, I feel this book will serve many purposes, but chief among them will be the effect it may have on men who wish to discuss the most private aspects of their lives with other men. Unlike women, men have a difficult time opening up, even with each other, about such issues. And yet, all men would agree that their sexuality is clearly of vital importance to them. Finally, a book that could (hopefully) serve as a catalyst to this issue.
Rating: Summary: A book that touches the heart Review: There are very few books that touch the heart in a profound way and this one falls into that catagory. "You Can't Make Love If You're Dead" approaches the scarey subject of Prostate Cancer with compassion and insight; I highly recommend this book to any- one dealing with Prostate Cancer, or for that matter, any life threatening desease.David Jordan Williams - Graphic Designer-Owner of Williams Studio
Rating: Summary: Help for prostate cancer victims and those who love them Review: You Can't Make Love if you're Dead Author: Leon Prochnik I didn't choose to read this book - someone gave it to me, but I had preconceptions when I saw the title. No news that tragedy and comedy live side by side, but it has to be said that stories about people facing life-threatening illnesses are often portayed as romantic, hopeless and wallowing. By contrast, Leon Prochnik describes his experience with prostate cancer with a kind of vulnerability that takes courage because of its raw and human honesty. His book is about facing your demons, and their foot soldiers and getting down on the floor with them. Which makes YOU CAN'T MAKE LOVE IF YOU'RE DEAD pertinent to all of us. Also, throughout, I laughed out loud. Humor - mostly at Leon's expense, is constant, fast and truly enjoyable. This book reads much like a novel, but more poignant than a novel because it is autobiographical. I really hope this work travels beyond the prostate cancer shelf in bookstores or doctors' offices. It's relevance goes way beyond its subject!
