Summary: Insights into the character of medicinals
Review: You might wonder why you should want this book if you already have Bensky's Materia Medica. As its title implies, this book was prepared from Jiao Shu-De's lectures on Chinese medicinals. Some of my colleagues have opined that this book's target audience was barefoot doctors, and that as aspiring scholar-doctors we have little to gain from its study. I must disagree - Ten Lectures is a worthwhile read for anyone hoping to expand their knowledge of Chinese medicinals. It is written in a clear, conversational style, and it does more than most books in English to clarify the individual character of specific medicinals as well as to place them in their proper context, i.e. prescriptions. There is also some sage advice on herbal prescribing in general.

Ten Lectures is a worthy translation and it belongs in your collection whether you are a student of Chinese medicine or a Chinese medical professional.
