Rating: Summary: Insightful Review: I purchased this book about three years ago. It made a difference in how I have managed myself and teams I work with. Understanding the different learning styles and taking the time to realize your own potential can come out in other ways made a big difference. An original copy I had was misplaced, but it made such an impression on my mind I purchased another copy recently to share with my coworkers. They found it useful as well.

Rating: Summary: More of an advertisement for Supercamp!!! Review: Impressed by the promises the author makes, I began reading this book very enthusiastically. But after the first five chapters i became bit skeptical as the author throughout talks about"The Supercamp". This book is more of an advertisement for the Supercamp. The good stuff appears only after the first half of this book and that too is very elementary. Though the author talks about some advanced techniques, yet she fails to do justice with them. You may reap some benefits from this book if it's your first one on the learning techniques. It's mainly an introduction to techniques such as mind maps, memory techniques, creativity etc. I read this book after reading the Memory book, power reading(not finished yet) and What smart students know and found that this one stood nowhere against the formers. The good thing about this book is the way the information has been presented. If you are a student and planning to buy a book on learning techniques,i recommend "What Smart Students Know" by Adam Robinson. For adults....look elsewhere. This ain't gonna bring the genius outof you.
Rating: Summary: "Newtonian Learning" not "Quantum Learning" Review: In its very title, "Quantum Learning: Unleashing the Genius in You", DePorter and Hernacki's book promises much. Unfortunately, while the text does contains useful information, it lacks substance for those outside of a structured learning environment. The book is ideal for those who are still safely ensconced in the world of academia. For those in this environment, QL provides the following benefits: (1) Description of the ideal learning environment, e.g. baroque music, encouraging instructors, etc. (2) Reminder of the need to cultivate a positive winning attitude (success begets success, and the virtuous cycle is created) (3) Note taking skills (namely, don't force yourself to write linear notes, detail your own comments on the right side of the page) (4) Mnemonic devices (map each number in a series 1-20 to an object to help remember lists, use your imagination to create vivid, even lurid stories) (5) Don't read each word, instead focus on groups of words. Use your finger to speed up the reading process. Details of how to accomplish the above items are delivered somewhat spottily to the reader. For example, there is a brief chapter on learning styles, but very little information on how to improve one's learning process based upon one's preferred learning style. But overall, the book is solid if you are a student in a structured academic environment. In fact, this book leverages coursework presented during the authors Super Camp classes geared to teenagers. The course was also used during the first week of business school. The other books that I would recommend for those outside of walls of academia include: "How to be Twice as Smart" and the "Einstein Factor". These two books are more general learning texts not specifically geared to the student. Paul Erdos
Rating: Summary: Awesome Review: Read this book with your highlighter in hand. Then, once a month go back and read your highlights. This will help you in whatever you do, not just in school. I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: A book among books Review: The world of accelerated learning/self-help books has exploded. Hundreds and hundreds of texts purport to show you techniques for getting smarter, have better memory, etc. The good news is that a couple books (Most especially this one and "The Einstein Factor") are actually worth having and reading. This book is well worth the price and should make a great gift for anyone you know interested in learning.

Rating: Summary: Want to accelerate your learning capacity? READ this book! Review: This book has opened my eyes to the barriers of old teaching methods (my schooling was from '73 to '86). If the techniques in this book are applied, it stands to reason that you will be a better learner. Ultimately, it all comes down to your confidence level and applying yourself but this book definitely guides you to a way of learning that we never (very unfortunately) experienced in school but it is never too late. It makes me realize how fun and easy learning can be with just a little conscious effort. I enjoyed discovering my personal learning style (which makes it easier to learn) and the type of thinker I am. When I finished the self-test (in the book), I was amazed to find the description of the type of thinker I am to be right on. Reviewing the other types of thinking (we all have a little of the 4 types presented) it made me able to understand others because I immediately was able to associate some people I know with their type. To the Authors: Thank you for the help and best wishes in your future endeavors. I would like for my children (when older) to attend SuperCamp.
