Summary: I read it three times and would eagerly devour it again.
Review: A fun and wonderful work. I gobbled it up in a day and half the first time around; laughed, cried, and read parts outloud to my boyfriend. As a student midwife, I can tell you this book will always have a spot in my personal library. I didn't agree at all with the reviewer who suggested that Peggy tried to compile nothing but births with a seat-of-your-pants feel - I believe these were her favorites. And I couldn't recall anything in this novel that struck me as "vulgar."

Summary: Liberating read for women, informative for men
Review: After reading this book, I will never look at midwives, childbirth, or my body in the same way again. This honest, authoritative memoir, by a woman who started her career as an obstetrical nurse, liberates women from the embarrassment that starts in adolescence with a budding female anatomy.

In her memoir, she presents the miracle of birth and shouts aloud those things that some of our mothers could only whisper and blush about. Immersed in bodily fluids up to her elbows, Peggy checks a cervix as naturally as a mechanic checks the oil. She demonstrates that, regardless of differences in race, belief, life style, or age, birth is a celebration of life. She welcomes each new soul and stands in awe at nature's magic--birth.

The writing is warm and welcoming, with a storyteller's enthusiasm and a savvy eye for the humor and irony of every situation. Peggy crafts a must-read for every woman who ever thought about childbirth. Men will discover...they'll gain insight into the intimate world of women and the men who stand with them. A truly strong debut book that fills a remarkably empty niche on the bookshelf....

Summary: Not just a great midwife, a great storyteller
Review: I bought this book because I am doing research for a novel and I have no experience with childbirth. This is a big help. Other books I am reading are "Spirtual Midwifery" and "A Midwife's Tale". BTW did you know that this author writes reviews of other products on Amazon?

Summary: Baby Catcher
Review: I could not put this book down! My children kept wanting exerpts read to them as I chuckled to myself or as they saw tears streaming down my face! This book is an amazing affirmation about the beautiful miracle of birth. It is told from the midwife's perspective which gives a new spin to the inspirational birth stories! I am recommending this book to everyone I meet! The other Doulas I work with and I compare so many stories we have to those in this amazing book! You will never regret the purchase.

Summary: Birth at it's Best!
Review: I'm a doula(professional labor assistant)and all-around "birth junkie"! So I grab any and all reading materials related to pregnancy and birth. I was elated when I read an excerpt of "Baby Catcher" in Rosie Magazine-I couldn't wait to get my hands on it! I happened to purchase it at the airport while on a business trip and boo-hoo'd my way from Baltimore to Atlanta! I couldn't put it down! It is a collection of heartfelt birth stories experienced by Peggy Vincent. Her belief in women's ability to birth their babies is proven time and again in her client's birth experiences. Her contribution to midwifery, obstetrics and the women she served should be celebrated! Any woman who was(is)fortunate enough to have Peggy attend her birth is truly blessed! She is a hero to many of us in the birth community who work to preserve the dignity and mircle of birth. Every woman should read this book! Tell your friends!

Summary: A great lift-me-up before giving birth
Review: If you're worried by all those books about risks in child birth, read this wonderful collection of stories to see the beauty of birth. While the author definitely believes in homebirth, any expecting parent (both moms and dads, and regardless of where they are planning to give birth) can enjoy the book's positive vibes.

Summary: To know her is to love her
Review: This has got to be the definitive book on childbirth. Better than any childbirth class, better by far than any advice you'll ever get from a doctor, better than any other book on the subject, it's the best, best, best.
Author Peggy Vincent writes from her heartfelt experience as a Berkeley midwife, and she 'teaches' her readers in a way that doesn't make you feel that you're 'being taught.' Instead, readers learn by osmosis: her message (You Can Do It) seeps into your pores, trickles into your brain, becomes entangles in the strands of your DNA, and by the end, you've gotten an entire course in midwifery, obstetrics, childbirth, and courage.
DO NOT MISS THIS BOOK. And buy copies for every pregnant woman you know. They will thank you forever.

Summary: WOW! And I'm not even a mom or plan to be!
Review: This is a fabulous story about the beginning of a life, from many women's experiences, lovingly cradled by Peggy Vincent. Regardless of whether you are a mom, mom-to-be, or just a person interested in birth and life, you'll love the touching, funny, and sometimes sad tales in this fantastic book!

Summary: Babycatcher review
Review: This is an excellent overview of the work of a midwife. It is a page turner and gives vivid touching stories of beautiful natural births. Having experienced birth with a midwife twice, I was thoroughly engrossed in this real life story.
This book will show the reader the reality that women can and should embrace childbirth as an enpowering lifechanging event.A must read for all those who are in the business of childbirth, especially MDs who may have lost the wonder and miracle of a natural birth.
Through the stories, the reader will come to love and admire Peggy for her respect of women and her incredible abilities.
