Summary: Boring!
Review: "Scripts and Strategies in Hypnotherapy, Volume 1" by Roger P. Allen is a small 160 page work that provides a series of rather uninformative hypnosis scripts. The book initially provides an Inducing Hypnosis section and then a series of Deepeners including The Candle, The Mind's Eye, The Garden and the usual Stair technique.

I did find the broad section entitled Suggestion Therapy to be some what informative but found the section on Pain Management to be depressingly short and uninteresting.

The work may deserve a place on every hypnotist's bookshelf due to its ways of NOT writing an informative script. Of all the techniques I have used and read over the past 20 years, I have never seen such long and at times boring narratives. I was not impressed with the long and pointless metaphors which I believe a previous reviewer mentioned. Simplicity is at times much better in hypnosis than a complex and at times long and pointless story. Although the concept of misdirection may be used, the script should never be BORING.

Summary: TERRIBLE!
Review: I don't think any one in the US would want to use these scripts! I have never heard a hypnotherapist use scripts, techniques or language that was anything like this. I returned this book within minutes of receiving it. The scripts were quite lengthy, and a lot of them were metaphors told in a long, biased story. I would quote parts of it for you, but I already packed it up to send back. This is the first time I have ever returned a book!

Summary: Brilliant scripts
Review: Scripts for just about every ailment and situation. Excellent languaging. Very useful. A great help for any Hypnotherapist. I use it in the Hypnosis section when I'm teaching NLP. It helps my delegates get an idea of how to structure their trance language. A great help. Thanks to Roger Allen for this contribution to the world of Hypnotherapy.
