Summary: A very helpful book
Review: Although Charles J. Givens is world famous for his unique, practical, and powerful strategies that have helped millions of people along the road to success and financial freedom, it is SuperSelf: How to Double Your Personal Effectiveness that is his most important work and offers powerful, pragmatic strategies that will enhance your personal life and success.

In SuperSelf, Mr. Givens shows you how to achieve your fullest personal and business potential with a set of proven strategies that serves as an actual "operations manual" for your life.

"Of all the strategies I could share with you," says Mr. Givens, "the most important are those that let you take control and achieve success in the total experience of living. Just as there are winning financial strategies, there are specific strategies that will allow you to win in every aspect of your personal and business life."

SuperSelf reveals how you can finally take control of your life, and stop others from controlling and dominating your time. Mr. Givens leads you through the process of setting realistic goals for your future and demonstrates how to achieve those goals by using commonsense "success strategies" in response to those life events you identify as problems.

SuperSelf gives you a toolbox of practical strategies that will guarantee success in any situation. Mr. Givens shows us how to:

-Win the game when you're playing in someone else's ballpark

-Create a blueprint for your life and put it into action

-Transform efficiency into effectiveness

-Control your time line

-Manage mundane details

-Eliminate interruptions

-Extend your peak performance period

-Fight fatique, fear and stress

-Become a victor instead of a victim

Givens strategies will enable you to achieve twice as much in half the time, literally doubling your personal effectiveness.

Not only have they worked for Charles Givens himself, making him one of the wealthiest, most successful and happiest people in the world in his time, they have also worked for thousands of others that Givens has taught since the inception of this program back in 1975. Now SuperSelf makes it possible for anyone to learn the personal habits, the attitudes of mind, and the time saving strategies that create success.

SuperSelf is an excellent book full of uncommon knowledge and I highly recommend it.

Summary: SuperSelf is a highly under-rated book.
Review: Before SuperSelf, I would always be at the mercy of interuptions of one sort or another. Interuptions are the number 1 destroyer of prductivity. I took Mr. Givens advice and blocked out time for no interuptions at home and at work. I highl recommend this strategy to everyone. Take the time to train your staff to do things the way you like them done. Cosequently, you'll be more likely to delegate rather than thinking "I can do the best job myself." Apply this same strategy at home with your home based business, planning time, study time etc. Realize that the more you control your life, the higher your self esteem will be. The two are directly related. This strategy alone was well worth the price of the SuperSelf program.

Summary: Helpful
Review: Givens encourages us to mimic the actions of people who constantly produce successful results. He adds, those who seem to produce and perpetuate problems should be avoided. "Live your life as most people do and you will be forced to settle for what most people settle for," he writes. Anyone wanting a different outcome, must obviously do things differently. In this book, he tells what he thinks those things should be.
He offers sound advice in telling his readers to drop the emotional baggage of the past. The focus is to be on the future. One's past experiences can be a limiting factor.
We're reminded throughout this book that in order to experience results unknown, we will have to do what we have never done.
Action is another theme that is repeated and with good reason.
He has dreams included in his discussion of planning. He writes, "Think of your Dreams as the script for a movie about your life."
His chapter (6) on goal setting is helpful. To the cliche-driven people who talk about "paying their dues" he says "You end up achieving in life because of planning and control, not because you have 'paid your dues'."
Goals are compared to signposts in that they are indicators one is on the road to fulfilling one's dreams.
I totally disagree with the fact that he jumped out of a plane as a sign of "conquering" his fear. In the margin I wrote "This is plain foolish." If one logically follows, why not go face-to-face with a lion, drink poison, stand out in sub zero weather for extended periods of time. The list is endless of foolish things one could do.
Another weakness in the book is the fact that the spiritual dimension is ignored.
Otherwise there is some helpful advice in most of the book.

Summary: Helped me more than anything
Review: I have a big library of personal development and sales training books. SuperSelf is my favorite only because it helped me more than any of the others.

SuperSelf is all about effectiveness. Making the most of your time and living your life to the utmost. Mr. Givens created an empire worth a quarter of a billion starting with only $500 and became the 10th most traveled man in history visiting every continent and most every country. Even more importantly, he touched the lives of millions. So it's safe to say that he was an incredible success to say the least.

SuperSelf will help you create that state of being where you can achieve any realistic goal that you are willing to work toward. SuperSelf will show you how to achieve maximum effectiveness, financial success while being totally happy, have phenominal relationships and balance to your life.

SuperSelf is a good read and I highy recommend it.

Summary: Took back control of my life with SuperSelf strategies
Review: I have a library of over 300 personal development and consider this as one of the very best. I constantly refer back to it since buying it over ten years ago.

SuperSelf shows you the person you have to be. It shows you how to flatten your fears and become more productive. I was hesitant to believe the claim "of doubling your personal effectiveness" but found that was indeed the case, I doubled my personal effectiveness and then some.

In chapter 1-Where you is, is where you is Givens states that where you are is an okay place to be but where you are going is entirely up to you. You can create your own destiny. Mr. Givens talks about the three time zones; the past, the present and the future and goes on to say that your only point of power is in the present moment.

In chapter 2-Playing to Win: The Ballpark Principle Givens explains how to win with other people even if you don't like the rules.

In chapter 3-Trying is Lying Mr. Givens explains the difference between success and failure. Concerning failure Givens explains "Failure is the refusal to establish a plan and work toward it's acomplishment regardless of the obstacles." Failure is simply the refusal to establish goals or objectives in your life and to work toward their achievement. "Talk to people who have neither goals nor the motivation to succeed" says Givens "and you'll find that their lives have no excitement, no purpose."

"To succeed" says Givens, "You will constantly find yourself sailing uncharted waters, doing things you have never done before, buut if you want anymore from life than mediocrity, then that's where you'll have to go."

Givens also blows a hole through common programming such as it doesn't matter if we win or not, just as long as we try hard. "Trying is lying." exclaims Givens. "When striving to achive your goals, there is no such thing as trying." is one of Givens mantra's.

Givens also suggests using near misses that you are off course, not that you have failed.

In Chapter 4-Devloping Your Blueprint offers 5 steps that make up your blueprint or life plan. These include:

1) Dreams list
2) Goals List
3) Values List
4) Action Plans
5) Daily Activities List

"A full 50% of accomplishing what you desire in life" Givens tells us "And most important, enjoying the experience---is dependent on how well you have drawn up your blueprint."

Givens goes on to state that if you haven't achieved what you want in life it's not because of a lack of ability, it's because of a lack of planning.

In chapter 5-Discovering Your Dreams and then realigning those dreams with your core values. Interesting is that Givens mentions two dreams that he gave up; one was to walk on the wing of an airplane and walking the full length of the Shara Desert from east to west. After careful consideration, Givens relates that these dreams were not practical so took them off his list.

"Defining what you are after is 50 percent of the battle in getting there." says Givens.

But Givens also warns; "Accelerating your life by setting goals also accelerates but does not create the problems and setbacks that you'll encounter." Here is where most people get buried. They set a goal, encounter a reversal and then quit.

SuperSelf is split up into 3 sections, 22 chapters and over 300 pages of good, powerful information. Other points that Givens makes that I believe stand out are not treating your family members as second class citizens, keeping agreements, doing discipline, managing the mundane, handling talkers and dumpers, fighting fatique and handling stress.

While I loved Mr. Givens financial books, I truly believe that SuperSelf is by far, Givens best work and a must read for anyone who wants success.

Summary: Become ten feet tall and bullettproof!
Review: Interesting that some people are surprised that Charles Givens produced this audio tape program and the book of the same name--SuperSelf; interesting because this is how Givens started way back in 1975 with his first company The Success Motivation Institute which was incredibly successful. SuperSelf is a program designed to take back control. To destroy the control others or events have over our emotions and the direction of our lives. To stop waiting for our ship to come in and go out and swim to it. Not to wait for things to happen but to make thing happen. Not to find ourselves, but to design ourselves. To take the action in our lives to make our dreams into reality.SuperSelf will show you how to design the rest of your life to become the best of your life and to live your dreams.

Summary: Super Book - I doubled my effectiveness
Review: It's been said that to be successful, model the successful. If that is true, then who better to model than a man who turned $500 into $250,000,000 while living a live of passion, fun, service and prosperity? Most people talk about goal setting, but how many talk about balancing goals with values? If you want to be a entrepreneur, working for someone else would be very frustrating. If you value a job, starting and running your own business would be scary and in conflict with your values. How would you like to get twice as much done in half the time? In this book, Givens shows you how. How would you like to be always happy, excited and full of energy? To be ahead of schedule instead of behind? Givens will show you how. This book helped me get my life, emotions and time under control. I went from being super busy and super efficient to being super confident and super effective with more free time to enjoy the good things in life.Thank you Mr. Givens, great book. ...

Summary: Boy ! it's a must read!
Review: This book is gauranteed to change you forever.Become the person you've always wanted to be, enjoy the ride while your Dreams come true, your Goals are achieved and your Personal Effectiveness is doubled!! Charles J. Givens, world famous for his unique, practical and powerful strategies that have led millions along the path to financial freedom, shows in this book how you can achieve your fullest personal and business potential. He provides a set of proven strategies that are an actual "operations manual" for one's life. Super Self strategies will enable you to accomplish twice as much in the same time...and it is possible for anyone to learn and implement the personal habits, attitude of mind and time saving strategies that create success! The pith of the book lies in the "Giveniser"- the planner for your future. Your Giveniser will consists of five separate sections : Dreams List-what you would do with your life if you had unlimited time, talent, money and family support. Goals List-specific results you want to achieve in the next year in one sentence statements. Values List-the beliefs and things you value most as they relate to your dreams and goals. Action Plan-specific objectives that must be completed for the accomplishment of your goal. Daily Activities List-one calendar month of daily activities. Maintaining focus is of prime importance and you should be disciplined "by choice".Givens rightly points out that you will thus increase your level of effectiveness and will earn the respect of others by keeping to your commitments. Out of the 168 hours in a week, you are left with only 42 hours (including weekends) after accounting for routine activities like sleep, meals and work. So, take control of your time, lest time should take control of you! Avoid the "no slack principle"-Murphy's well known law that what can go wrong will go wrong and at just the wrong time! Don't let phone calls and door-bells distract you from doing what you are doing, afterall, what you chose to do with your time has to be of more importance than what somebody else wants you to. Powered with these effectiveness strategies, you are surely going to feel more satisfied as you attain happiness and satisfaction in all that you do. This book is a "must read" for all those who while wanting to achieve success find at the end of the day that they haven't utilised their time well. The strategies are put forth in a simple language aided powerfully by real life examples, the most striking of which is ...now hold your breath...the author himself! A disturbed childhood with alcoholic quarrelling parents who eventually separated did not give Givens the kind of start a billionaire would have liked to have. But Givens did not carry the "emotional baggage" of the past - he "Givenised" his schedule to become rich, famous and happy! I've made my "lists" and believe me , doing that itself gave me immense satisfaction and a profound sense of direction. This book has made me my "Super Self"!
