Rating: Summary: Enjoyed this book Review: I had a couple complaints about this book. Some of the weight loss information feels like it's been said a million times before in other weight loss books. Eat less. Lose weight. If it were that easy, we would all be skinny. I also wish this book came in paperback.
On the upside, this book accomplishes something that other similar books don't offer-- a game plan for dieting that sounds like it is not only an original outlook but a sane and workable plan too. In this day and age, that is something worth reading. I must admit it is impressive for a weight loss book to acutally bring up an original and functionable diet plan.
Overall, this book gets two thumbs up from me.
Rating: Summary: Automatic Diet is Friend's Dream Review: I have heard a lot about "The Automatic Diet." Actually, "a lot" can be quantified into hours of praise from one of my best friends. She really liked the book and her slender figure attests to the book's methods.
My friend has been on many fad diets in the past. She had done juice diets, the Atkins diet and has feverishly hit gym. The problem has been that she has not been able to maintain the weight loss. She has roller-coastered physically and emotionally. "The Automatic Diet" has curbed this sporadic behavior and has provided weight loss with a program that should be easy to maintain.
Rating: Summary: Good Read Review: I just wanted to say that this book really helped me. I have tried a lot of diets out there - including the whole atkins thing - and this is the only diet that has worked for me. I would totally reccommend checking this out!
Rating: Summary: Worth A Read Review: I read Charles Platkin's Diet Detective column each week and his advice is always sensible and easy to apply in everyday life. I've been looking forward to this book for awhile, and I wasn't disappointed.
This book is not is one of the "magic" diets! It stops short of being just "common sense" weight loss advice by using the idea of organizing your life so the weight loss can be automatic. I didn't finish this book feeling like I had some master plan to follow exactly, which I suppose is good for weight loss, bad for immediate gratification. I will be referring back to it often for guidance. I'd recommend it if you feel ready for a guide to help you actually do the things you already know you should(isn't that the hard part!).
Rating: Summary: Great book Review: I think this is worth a try or read. It takes a no nonsense and no holds-barr approach to weight loss and worth looking into.
Rating: Summary: A New Me in the New Year Review: If you're like me and have promised yourself that THIS will be the year when you lose the weight and actually stick to your diet, then check out this book. Last year, I started the South Beach diet while I was ringing in the New Year in South Beach. The year before that, I was in the Zone all the way. The problem is, while, I did lose weight in the beginning of the year on all those diets, by the the end of the year, I'd gained it back. So, I decided that this year, I was going to adjust my resolution just a smidge. I want to lose this excess weight and keep it off for good. That's why I'm taking a new approach to my weight loss attempts, and I am using the Automatic Diet's 10-Step program. From what I can tell, this is a diet that actually changes how you eat and see food permanently. In all honestly, I tend to use food as a crutch sometimes. I eat when I'm depressed. I eat when I'm celebrating. I eat when I'm angry. I eat when I'm bored. This book helps you prepare for situations where you know you're going to overeat, and even better, it helps you to recognize those situations you overeat in which you may not have even realized trigger you to overeat. In my opinion, this is the most eye-opening and effective book in the weight loss market, and I should know, I've read almost all of them.
Rating: Summary: The Alarm went off Review: Mind boggling fact from this book: Only around 10% of a person's day contribute to 80% of the reasons a person is overweight. The book refers to these times as "eating alarm times"-- and it is so true! After really taking a look at my eating patterns after finishing the book, I realized that I while I am extremely careful about what I eat all day, I tend to blow it each night after dinner. That explains why even though I've been on a diet for about ten years now, I haven't lost and actually kept off even a pound. The book offers solutions for this and much, much, more. While the book isn't free, I am now becoming more and more free-- more fat free.
Rating: Summary: Really Enjoyed this Book Review: My girlfriend keeps quoting this book to me. (She always thinks she's fat and is a diet expert). I read it yesterday, and thought it was definitely one of the better weight loss books. I bought one for my mom who just came off a diet because it was too hard for her to stick to it.
Rating: Summary: Automatic Reaction Review: This book changed the way I looked at dieting. It helped me see that instead of being a punishment for letting my weight get out of control, a diet only corrects poor choices that I had been making. By using this new approach to food I was able to see where I had gotten off track. It made me realize that keeping my weight in control is something that I can do long term rather than yo-yoing from trying diet after diet. I see how making good choices can become part of my daily routine - something I can do with less effort.
Not sure why Anonymous reviewed a book he/she didn't read, but I think the other reviews are definitely on target, and more in line with my experience which was only positive.
Rating: Summary: Liked this Book alot Review: This is a high recommend. I only read it because there's been so much talk about it in my circle, and it far surpassed my expectations. As someone who has struggled with my weight, it has not been easy for me to think about starting a new diet plan. My weight is a sensitive issue for me, and I have struggled with it multiple times in the past. The book's plan is simple and doesn't require you go out and buy a lot of products or anything. It seems like the book is written because the author generally cares about helping people not only lose weight but improve their health.
