Rating: Summary: A life changing book Review: A reader from Sanford, MEEasy to follow, easy to read, and real, life-changing results! I found this book to be unusually concise and written with great compassion for people who struggle to lose weight. The author's recommendations for overcoming individual obstacles are practical, straightforward, and doable, and his references (for additional information) were extremely helpful. Yes, you must take responsibility for your success and follow through on the recommendations, but if you do (like me), you'll be well-rewarded for your efforts. This is a true story. According to the results of the UFO test, my primary obstacles were hypothryroidism and a DHEA imbalance. When I told my doctor about this she was condescending and wouldn't even consider the possibility that I had these problems. But because I insisted, she ordered the tests. Sure enough, I tested positive for both. Now, after only three weeks on supplements to increase my DHEA level and medication for my thyroid, I am ten pounds lighter and have more energy than I ever thought possible. Prior to this, on the program prescribed by my doctor and nutritionist, I actually GAINED 25 pounds. They said they didn't believe I was following the program. I felt discounted and shamed. If you're impatient, have unrealistic expectations, or are looking for a quick fix, you probably won't like this book. But if you're looking for real answers to real problems, look no further. The results of the makeovers featured in the book speak for themselves.

Rating: Summary: A revolutionary book - a must read! Review: I bought the book with the hope that I would finally figure out why I wasn't losing weight. The UFO test included in the book really was my key to really understanding why over the years my dieting and exercizing were not meeting my goals. I also started using the exerices that the book recommends which has helped me to really tone up. What can I say, 2" off my belly isn't bad in four weeks.

Rating: Summary: A fitness book that you'll read more than once Review: I found this book very useful in increasing the increasing the number and intensity of my workouts while at the same time reducing the amount of time that I was spending in the gym. When I purchased this fitness book six months ago, I was struggling with getting my workout sessions in each week. After taking the UFO test and resolving three of the "unidentified fitness obstacle" (UFO), I am now working out five times a week (three sessions with weight lifting and all five sessions with running 30 minutes or more) and training to run my first 3K. I use this fitness book as a reference. In addition to the UFO test and lifting instructions, it contains other useful information such as how to calculate Calorie Intake based on how active I am, the Karvonen Formula (Levels of exercise heart rate), meal planning, and weight/aerobic training program. I think that Gerrish gives realistic advice on how exercise/weight training programs function (i.e. some days you're just not going to feel well and exercise won't go well.) and how to use each session effectively.
Rating: Summary: A refreshing approach to weight loss that really works Review: I just finished Michael Gerrish's book and I was so impressed by the presentation that I felt compelled to contribute a review on his behalf. In essence, this self-help fitness book is intended to assist people who are "stuck in a rut" in their efforts to become physically fit. As a method for doing so, Michael provides the means for identifying the "Unidentified Fitness Obstacles" that are preventing you from accomplishing your goals. First of all, let me say that this is a very practical and effective approach because, in analytical problem-solving of any type, people often overlook the most fundamental starting-point in finding a practical solution... and that is, before you can begin to fix a problem, you first have to determine exactly what the problem is. The exercise of pinpointing your personal impediments is a revelation in and of itself, and that alone is beneficial, but Michael then uses his considerable expertise and experience to propose solutions which are tailored to overcome the individual's unique hang-ups. I appreciate Michael's "no pain, no gain" honesty in his advice. He doesn't delude readers into believing that there are any "quick-fixes" to these dilemmas. Michael makes it clear that any improvements to one's general health and fitness can result only from a comparable change in lifestyle, diet and exercise regiment and he provides specific recommendations and resources to effectuate that transformation. His proposals are detailed, yet easy to comprehend, and the "makeovers" help to personalize the process while providing the inspiration to get you motivated. Whether you are a person who wants to get into shape but keeps putting it off, or you're someone who works out regularly but has hit a wall, this is an extremely helpful book and I highly recommend it.

Gerrish provides an exceptional resource to the health field, an area usually veiled in ignorance. I personally found Gerrish's Unidentified Fitness Obstacles Test to be precise and thorough. It was clearly evident to me the knowledge base and expertise from which Gerrish designed and developed this program. Gerrish provides the reader with specific recommendations and resources for each of the 58 fitness obstacles that he identifies for the reader. In addition, he provides well diagramed easy to follow exercises; accurate nutrition and supplement information and an added item which I have found absolutely necessary in dealiing with obstacles in fitness and life-Acutherapy (the science of letting go of your energy blocks that contribute to fear)! If you are someone who wants the knowledge and the tools to discover what it is that you need to create the lifestyle that you want and have the physcial as well as the mental foundation to go foward, I would recommend that you get a copy of this book. If you need to get inspired just read some of Gerrish's journal pages that he includes in the book from the participants that have been part of his research. What you will find is that Gerrish shows people from real life situations that got results. Thank you.
