Summary: An excellent source of reference on Psychophsysics.
Review: A great book that is widely referenced, it provides a solid introduction to classical psychophysics and discusses, indepth, the newer Theory of Signal Detection (TSD).
It has a simple and fluid style of writing that belays the sometimes complex nature of the subject. The examples provided are never fixed on one sensory modality - there are visual, auditory, pain and a mixture of the three.
I would recommend first timers diving into Swets, Stephens, Green and other papers to first have a run through of this book; it provides an excellent grounding to understanding some of the newer results and techniques.
Those who would like to dig into more of the classical psychophysics may be disappointed as only two chapers are devoted to it. Though a bit of history of the field are sprinkled in the beginning chapters which made an interesting read.

Summary: The only complete and modern introduction to psychophysics
Review: Gescheider has in the third edition of his book "Psychophysics: The Fundamentals" accomplished an introduction to psychophysics that is both complete and modern. This book has been a natural choice for my teaching in introductory psychophysics and perception both at pre- and postgraduate levels.
