Review: After reading some of the reviews on "Conquering the Mysteries and Lies of Grief," by Sherry Russell, I have decided there isn't much in the way of adding anything that might be of help to those pondering the purchase of this 'MUST READ NOVEL' except for perhaps my sending a special heartfelt 'THANK YOU' to the author of this book. My husband passed away four years ago at a very young age. With his passing a large part of "ME' died too. It has taken four years to finally comes to terms with my loss and to be honest with you this book helped me in more ways than I care to admit publicaly. I think denial leading to depression played a large role in my having problems with moving on in life (or even wanting to move on in life). Now, I have come to terms with the loss of my husband and the love and life we once shared together. I have moved on, but not without a few reservations. This book is an amazing find to be sure! Thank you Ms. Russell for writing it!

Review: Book Review: by Kitty Hoffman Conquering the Mysteries and Lies of Grief by Sherry RussellDeb Smith-Jones, the founder of Margaret Ann's Place in Kenosha, told me that this might be a very interesting little book. She was right on both counts. It was packed with information and ideas and at only 105 pages it was a quick read. The author blends her personal insight with quotes from the interviews she conducted. She pinpoints the differences between men and women and how they deal with grief. Early on she states that your grief is like a bridge that you must cross from what used to be to what now exists. That trip isn't fast or easy, but it must be taken in order to feel like you have regained some control in your life. Her references to the stepping-stones or stumbling blocks, rather than the phases of grief, are easy to visualize. She offers information on stress and how it can affect us emotionally and physically, along with some suggestions for dealing with it. Chapter Eight is her Exercise in Truth. It offers a list of questions to analyze your relationship with the one who died as well as those around you. She also touches on family dynamics and the need to work together on the new reality you face. And the last chapter of Sherry Russell's book offers some Pain Relievers and hope - two things I know we all long for. This is definitely a book I would recommend.

I love the way the book opens up your thinking by using the author's cases and her own experiences. I kept thinking I was the only one who felt like I was hiding a secret deep inside. I thought I was nuts. This book helped me know I could go on living and even laugh again. The best part is I learned how to communicate openly. I would defintely recommend this book to any one who would like to learn about grief or is in grief.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Insightful interesting tool Review: One thing we all have in common...we all grieve at times in our lives. Author Sherry Russell has written a book that should be required reading for everyone. In the throes of sadness and anxiety over losing a loved one or losing a job, a friend, a relationship with someone significant...these situations all fall under the mystique of subtracting a part from the whole of a person's being. What to do about this and how to cope is the crux of this wonderful 100 page masterpiece. Understanding the physical, mental and emotional realities effected by loss and how to handle these changes can make the difference between rising out of the dark hole and staying in it... Outstanding book, well written; the experience between the covers of this book for the reader is more like taking time to talk to a good friend than reading a book.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Excellent! Review: We have all experienced or will experience the death of a loved one during our lifetime, and, in my opinion, there is no better book to be found regarding the terrible ordeal of dealing with death than "Conquering the Mysteries and Lies of Grief" by author Sherry Russell. Ms. Russell has written an informative, well-researched, edifying book that explains in layman's terms how to deal with the sequelae resulting from a loved one's death, including stress, anxiety, anger, and depression. I particularly found interesting her Maze with the 7 "A" stones, which was very insightful. Of particular interest also are the personal interviews throughout the book, offering a glimpse into the wide spectrum of grief from people who have experienced it. This is a book much needed, especially during this time, and I would recommend it for everyone.
