Rating: Summary: Divinely inspired Review: Bet you can't read just one! You will crave all of her books once you have a taste of Florence Scovel Shinn's words. After you read the books, don't forget to buy the affirmation cards - they are a must!
Rating: Summary: Not especially different from the Game of Life... Review: Florence does repeat herself a bit from her previous works, but nonetheless the truths are just as true. She's the best Western writer on this subject bar none. And if this style of approach appeals to you, you'll certainly want this book.
Rating: Summary: Simple and direct introduction to true spiritual growth Review: I found this book to answer so many questions that I was not even aware I had. Reading Ms. Shinn's words was like discovering a hidden part of myself and knowing that I was not alone in the universe.
Rating: Summary: Comforting Review: If you are born-again, you will probably find as repugnant as did I, Ms Shinn's references to: Jesus Christ as "the greatest of all teachers" - true, but not completely, the Bible as a "metaphysical book," evil as coming from "man's own vain imaginings," and God as "Infinite Intelligence" and "Supreme Intelligence." /// I rated this book with 1 star because the option for no stars was not available.
Rating: Summary: The best Western metaphysics writer ever. Review: Ok. Maybe not THE best, but unlike the Ouspensky's of the genre, she writes in simple and unpretentious style that is easily understood. No blind/mindless/peasant faith is required. Florence provides a refreshingly empirical methodology insofar as metaphysics is concerned for verifying her assertions yourself first hand. Try it and see for yourself.
Rating: Summary: Power of the Spoken Word Review: Packed with superstitions and stupidity. Might be somewhat helpful for the growing adolescent mind if it were not for inherent contradictions and outright ridiculous statement. A small minded belief in the bible as the word of God distorts and clouds thoughts that might otherwise have at least superficial entertainment value for a child. However it can be a mildly interesting study of the primitve "religious" reality structure of the authors social group. (Middle class early 20th C US type.)
