It is hard once you get started in the wedding planning vortex to know where to turn especially if you are trying to compose a traditional event. The highlight of this book are the many contact addresses to companies and providers of all kinds. There is also a good outline of traditions and recipes. Guests will not go hungry and every aspect of the popular Irish wedding is covered.Everything from lace to Papal blessings. This book will be a blessing to one and all who have to sort through all the details. By the way the web page address perhaps not given in the book (can't remember actually! so thrilled I am to be cited!) for my Irish Studies Pages... I have also recommended it on my bookshelf ( a link from the pages) This book will put a glow into anyones wedding plans. Even if you are not getting married get it for the wonderful pointers to amazing products and sources.

Summary: I had the Irish wedding of my dreams....
Review: all because of this wonderful book. This was my one and only wedding "bible" - my copy is so tattered, dog-eared and full of notes that it is barely readable anymore. But it inspired and helped me to design the wedding I've always wanted. One and all, our guests told us we had the most unique and wonderful wedding they'd ever attended. (Several people told me they thought our wedding was more fun than their own!)

If you want to pay tribute to your Irish heritage at your wedding, definitely get this book. Not only is it helpful in and of itself, but it also has a great index of mail-order companies and web sites to help further your research. My only hope is that the book will be regularly updated to incorporate the growing body of online ethnic wedding resources.

Review: An extraordinarily thorough book on Irish weddings with both fun and touching traditions and history explained. Unlike any other book I found while researching traditions for my daughter's wedding, this easy to read book became our bible! With delightful anecdotes, the book is informative and entertaining. Many sources and contacts are provided. Whether you want a touch of Irish in your wedding or a full scale Irish shindig, this is THE book. We actually received thank you notes from people for having invited them to the wedding!

Summary: If your not catholic don't buy this book
Review: Before I got married I really excited to incorporate Irish customs and traditions. I was so happy when I received this book, until I started reading it. Don't get me wrong it is a very interesting book. But although my husband and I are of Irish decent, being what would be concidered protestant christians I was unable to incorporate any of the blessings or ideas for readings, since they were all meant for a Catholic wedding. If you want history buy the book. If you're Catholic buy the book. For the rest of us. . .save your money for your honeymoon.

Review: This book is great for anyone who is interested in Irish Culture, not just those who are planning a wedding. They say you can tell the most about a culture from the way they celebrate, and the extensive research Ms Haggerty has done has given us a great view of the Irish. Having lived there for several years I recognized quite a few of the wonderful sayings and traditions, but they're sadly falling out of use now in modern Ireland. I would think this book would be just as useful to Irish brides who want to recapture their heritage. And if you ever get a chance to go to an Irish wedding, don't miss it- but get plenty of rest beforehand!

Review: This book was a very interesting and informative book on the history and culture surrounding the Irish wedding. While I am not Irish in heritage, I ordered this book because I wanted to incorporate Irish customs into my wedding. This is a great book because it tells you the "what" and, more importantly, the "why" behind the customs. This is what sets this book above other Irish wedding books: it tells you why. I also liked the reference section and the recipe section. I have some neat ideas for food at the reception as well as some wedding favor ideas. This is an invaluable reference book that gives you a human touch. It is a best buy!

If you want a wedding that has Irish touches them don't waste your money on this book. I was VERY excited to receive this book, then I read it.
