Rating: Summary: Ok, slightly off Review: I bought this book without having read anything from the author before. I have to say that books on subjects like this are generally filled with a lot of misinformation. This book is a bit better than the rest. Baba Raul Carizares has presented a work filled with information about Palo Monte. He makes the distinction however that Palo Monte and Palo Mayombe are like light and dark. I had to disagree with that distinction, neither is light nor dark. All in all this is a pretty good work. I recocmend this one over the others on the subject.
Rating: Summary: Much better than the Montenegro book! Review: I have to say that regardless of how the ATR community at large viewed Raul Canizares and the OCM, this book is a great piece of work. Canizares was maticulous with his detailed information and personal accounts. Although, I had some differences and disagreements throughout the book regarding certain Pontos and Nkisis descriptions (and drawings), overall I found The Book on Palo rather impressive and much needed piece of scholastic literature on the topic. A bit pricey, but worth it.....if you have the opportunity to buy it used grab it, but even at full price I am sure you get *something* out of it! Recommended with slight reservation!
Rating: Summary: Much better than the Montenegro book! Review: This is an excellet book on Palo. With new Firmas ( Sigils )never before seen on print in the english market, the translated names of Palos and Herbs as used in the Cuban Palo Religion. This is an excellent introduction to the Palo Mayombe and Palo Monte Traditions. I loved it, if you read Baba Raul's other books, this is similar to Cuban Santeria in it's format and the way it was written, so if you enjoyed that boo, you will like this one even more.
