Summary: Good exercise routine/Bad diet plan
Review: About 9 years ago, I had started to put on weight for the first time in my life. I couldn't believe it when I stepped on a friends scale and discovered that I had gained almost 20 pounds - seemingly overnight! I was very depressed and not looking forward to a life of diets - I just love food and cooking too much. Then I saw Joyce on the Monel Williams show. At the time, she was promoting her other book, Bottoms Up. I bought it and acquired a couple small weights - and began my transformation. The first workout was a killer - I was dripping with sweat in no time and feeling very weak. I didn't even think I would make it through! But I kept at it and after three weeks, I had a noticeable difference - my shoulders no longer slumped, my chest was perkier, my stomach was trimmer and I FELT BETTER - all without drastic dieting. I knew this was a start in the right direction!

I ended up trimming myself down to my high school size (size 4) in no time at all. My husband told me I looked better than I ever did. I then bought her other book, Definition. This is the book I now use for my weight workouts. Her routines are sound - they work - and you don't have to spend all your time in a gym. You can do this in the privacy of your own home. Joyce is very encouraging and her stuff is spelled out clearly, for the athletically challenged like myself.

Because of Joyce's workouts, I am more active - I walk all the time, I hike, I do yoga, etc. I still eat like a horse, but remain the same size! I really think Joyce changed my life for the better!

Summary: tried it, I'll pass....
Review: After doing Joyce's 'Bone-building body-shaping workout' for a few months, I did not enjoy 'Definition' as much. The full pyramid method was a real bore - too much of the same thing, sorry to be so honest. I am also confused as to what 'definition' really means, if it does not involve adding ANY bulk. As some others mentioned, putting avocados on the forbidden food list really saddened me - we eat avocados every day while they are in season because they are delicious, and cheap where we live. As far as the workout goes, I am looking for a few to rotate through every few weeks, but 'Definition' will not be one of them.

Summary: Kill 2 birds with one stone!
Review: I love this book, it really gets you toned up and it burns that nasty fat off at the SAME TIME so those tight little muscles show! (and isn't that the point?) Terriffic for beginners, and not "intimidating" like programs that start out with long workouts& heavy weights. I'd really reccomend the videos in addition to the book for the greatest benefit. Go for it!! You've got nothing to lose! (except FAT!....oh yeah....and you get to gain cute sexy little muscles. You can't beat that!)

Summary: First time 'used book' buyer!
Review: I purchased this book after a good friend told me about it. I was growing tired of doing aerobics and not getting the look I wanted. After 1 week of doing the workout I have much more energy! This is a workout anyone can stick with. The benefits for women 40 and over are worth the time. What surprised me is the way that she presents the workout, unlike some other approaches, you don't burn out your muscles. You can actually move days after working out! I bought this book used and got it in less than a week...it looks brand new!

Summary: Great workout .......check out Joyce's web site too!
Review: I purchased this book and wrote to the Joyce Vedral ........... She wrote me back the next day and told me what videos to use and gave me a detailed workout plan based on the info that I sent her. I am very pleased with the book and the videos as they both deliver fast results! Also, Joyce is very motivating and upbeat which makes the book and videos that much better.

Highly recommended!

Summary: A Weight Resistance Plan that REALLY Works
Review: Joyce Vedral's book "Definition" provides a weight resistance plan that even the most resistant of exercisers can undertake and still achieve results.

After scanning through numerous books and reading many of the online reviews of weight training for women, I decided on Joyce Vedral. I don't have the time to visit the gym four plus times a week, but I do have 15 minutes a day in which I can lift weights.

This particular program utilizes three different weighted dumbbells: 1, 2 and 3. While you initially think that the 1 lb dumbbell couldn't possibly help you achieve your goal (it's like a can of Campbell's condensed soup!), you realize that the burn you feel is exactly that--progress.

Already, just a few weeks into the program, my arms, legs and abs show noticeable toning. The routine is fun and challenging.
The pictures and the text are very helpful.

Please note, I didn't follow the diet plan so cannot really comment on that particular aspect. The plan brags that after 25 weeks the individual following the weight resistance method as well as the diet can lose as much as 75 pounds. I believe it's possible.

Summary: This is Ms. Vedral simplest exercise book yet
Review: Ms. Vedral outdoes herself in this latest bodybuildingbook. She is a fantastic author, she explains the routinesin easy to understand detail. You will also be given guidelines on an eating plan which is simple to follow. Ms. Vedral includes a question and answer section which is extremely helpful. A pullout chart of the bodybuilding exercises is included, with different exercises so you may customize your workout. This is one you DON'T want to miss!

Summary: You can do ANYTHING for six weeks
Review: My sister once told me "you can do anything for six weeks", and she was right. Give Joyce's program a shot for six weeks...you won't be sorry! (And you won't stop after six weeks either.) "Definition" is wonderful because you use lighter weights, and for me that ment less soreness than other programs I've tried. I'm over forty :( and I can do this workout. Plus the workout can be done three days a week and that just fits into my schedule nicely. Think about how much time and money you spend on get-thin-quick schemes and worrying about how you look. For less than the cost of some new and amazing diet pill, you can buy her book. For the amount of time you spend per day worried or upset about how you look, you could work out with weights. You can do anything for six weeks.

Summary: Excellent livre! Ca marche vraiment!
Review: Perfect for anyone wanting to get their muscles really "cut" or for those starting out with a weight training program. Not intimidating at all, and starts with very light weights. Aerobic at the same time. Who could ask for more?? I'd recommend getting the videos also for maximum effect!

Summary: Love that Joyce!
Review: With all due respect to the reviewer who had negative comments about Joyce's diet suggestions: yes, she does have some "forbidden foods;" but, if you had read the diet closely, you would see that there is no danger of feeling deprived or binging if you follow what she says. With Joyce's diet you get one entire "cheat day" per week. That means that you can eat doughnuts, pasta, peanut butter and avocados all day long if you want just as long as you follow the diet for the other six days.

Her diet and workouts work better than anything I have ever tried.
