Summary: An insightful guide for intelligent women.
Review: Doctor Streicher's guide to hysterectomy uses plain language to dispell many of the myths surrounding this common and often life-saving gynecologic procedure. There is a plethora of books on pregnancy. It is time someone addressed the retirement phase of our reproductive equipment. What happens when my uterus is no longer my friend? Can I go on and have a happy, feminine and productive life without these organs? After reading Dr. Streicher's book I can answer with a confident: 'Yes, absolutely!' I have only two criticisms of the book: 1)Some of the diagrams appear to contain a printing error. The shading did not match the description for two of the diagrams. 2)Some of the language may be difficult for women of limited educational background. A high school education is probably the minimum required to understand this book.

Summary: Good, Honest Information
Review: Dr. Streicher's book provides so much valuable information. My GYN is wonderful - she answered so many questions and was so informative on my many visits to her office. However, as many of you know there are always a thousand more questions running through your mind after leaving the office. Dr. Streicher's insight and honest approach helped answer so many questions. Her book prompted me to ask the "right" questions and probe things further with my own GYN. Thank goodness the information is out there. Thank you Dr. Streicher for your, honest, down-to-earth approach of a difficult topic.

Summary: Excellent book
Review: I found this book extremely helpful. After my doctor suggested a hysterectomy, I wanted to check if hysterectomy was really the right step for me. The chapters about alternatives were fair and very helpful. The rest of the chapters gave me a much more thorough understanding of what to expect than I could have ever gotten from a one hour consultation with my doctor. I found it engaging and easy to read. I came away feeling fully informed and much more confident about my future.

Summary: Mom may need hysterectomy
Review: I loaned my copy of Dr. Streicher's book to my mother who thought she may need a hysterectomy. My mother reported that Dr. Streicher's book had information on topics she couldn't find elsewhere -- even about laparoscopic procedures which she hadn't heard about before. Dr. Streicher's book helped educate my mother so that she was an informed patient and knew what questions to ask her own doctor. Fortunately, it was determined that my mother did not need to have a hyesterectomy. My only problem with this book is getting my copy back from my mother. I may need to purchase a new one. I think it is a "must-have" for any woman 40+ -- even for men whose partners/spouses/girlfriends are facing this.
