Summary: Not all is like she said it is
Review: After 13 years of being a military wife I thought her statements are pretty funny but also a bit cynical. You can't just laugh about problems and shake them off like the Author is suggesting. But she is right - keeping a good attitude helps a lot. I am not quite sure if she really enjoyed her husband being in the military - she is very critical about everything that has to do with being a soldiers wife. But on the other hand I like her being so frank. I really enjoyed reading it but only because I know what she is talking about...a brand new military wife might be on the other hand scared to death after reading this book.

Summary: Horrible and offensive!
Review: After reading this book I am offended. I am red in the face mad!! I have never read any "Military Wife" book so inflammatory, rude and incorrect!! If the author is going to "say" something is right then the Author needs to back it up. I don't want rumors! This is a serious life for me!
I do not have a "part-time" husband. My marriage is not a business transaction. I married for love. The implication in this book must be met for woman just looking for a meal ticket. The author is actually suggesting to not let love be the deciding factor in whether to marry. And guess what Ms Martin I do come first. It's called love and commitment to our sacred vows!!
"there will be some heinous fights along the way. Resolving conflict is the stuff that marriage is made of, after all"
If resolving conflict is the stuff that marriage is made of why would anyone want to get married? From what I have read this Author doesn't have a problem with the Military but a problem with the relationship she is in. I would suggest a CREDO retreat!
The Author calls the Military a flawed organization! The Author should be ashamed at verbalizing this as fact!

I have never felt I have been treated like a "pain in the" while conducting business on base! My husband makes more than "peanuts". I do not live in "substandard" housing! I am not as the book suggests "being constantly ignored or another problem in somebody's day!

I have a feeling with this book she was trying to "rattle" someone that she might have had differences with. I have found the Military to be family friendly! Last week I attended a "Spouse Appreciation" social, was treated to free spouse bowling night.
I ask what kind of background does this Author have? There was much offensive material in this book. I won't even sale this book at a garage sale - it is going in the trash! The comment I will close with; Do you honestly believe this statement - "You will know that you have been fully initiated the first time you realize that everything I have written in this book is entirely true. As offensive as you may find it, I don't make this stuff up. You need to be writing fictional romance novels. You are so off base this book would be comical if not so darn insulting.

Summary: Pathetic
Review: As a military wife and as a former sailor I found this book to be an utter waste of time to have read. Hilary Martin is an immature kid who knows nothing of how the miltary or the real world works. I feel she is very dillusional in her opinions stated in her book, and feel all military wives should steer clear from this pathetic attempt in trying to tell military wives how it is. As soon as I finished reading it I promply through it into the trash where it belongs.

Summary: Excellent realistic depiction
Review: Having been involved with the military for 4 years, I wish I had read this book when my husband first joined! So many military wives books seems as if they were written in the fifties--they are sugary sweet and depict all aspects of military life as absolutely wonderful experiences. Anyone knows that no aspect of life is perfect, including military life. This book depicts with humor some of the problems that military wives face, and gives suggestions for handling them with a sense or humor. I sat down and read this book cover to cover, and recommend it wholeheartedly.

Summary: A must for any new military wife
Review: I admit to having only read excerpts of this book, but it is great. The author takes a no-nonsense, tough love, practical and often humorous approach to military life. Unlike many other books designed to help military wives learn about thier new lives this one is written in a more personal stile explaining the things one wife learned and wanted to pass onto others. It is entertaining reading which is more than you can usually say for a manual.

Summary: scary but true
Review: I bought this book when my husband joined the Marine Corps last year at the ripe old age of 26. Being previously in the military myself, I was curious to see what Hilary had to say about being on the other side. While I did read the book cover to cover, I did have to stop ocasionally, because the stories portrayed in this book are shockingly true. From the medical issues, to the strange military "traditions", to how to surviving a deployment, every issue is dealt with plainly, and with humor. In the year since I have gotten the book, most of what Hilary wrote, has turned out to be true. It was refreshing to get some honest answers, because you sure can't get them from the recruiters most times. The book might shock some people, because they just don't want to deal with what actually happens in the military, and to the military spouse. Some wives after 10 years still don't have the "real" story about what goes on. The best piece of advice that this book has is to keep a sense of humor about things. Although the military wife is not IN the military, she still has to deal with it for the duration of the enlistment, so rather than wallow in pity, it is better to just deal with it and get on with life

Very well written, with a great sense of humor and good information.

Summary: Not the best book for new military wives.
Review: I have read a number of books for military wives and families. While this book was entertaining, it was also very cynical and gave a pessimistic view to military life. Some of the information was fairly accurate, however this book would scare me away from a military lifestyle if I was a new military wife. Some of the more experienced wives may be able to appreciate the humor. Additionally, the author seems fairly young, and there were a number of derogatory remarks made about her husband and men in general (it may be offensive to some readers). It's also one of the most expensive books for military wives available (not sure why). I'd recommend Today's Military Wife by Lydia Sloan Cline over this book anyday.

Summary: Don't waste your money or time reading this
Review: I hope she wasn't paid much for this book. I have read several books on the military way of life, and I have to say this was the most rude and typical polyester-patty military wife opinion and outlook. Although she "claims" to be a "professional" and employed as a pharmacy technician, her entire book paints her as a military wife that EVERYONE has heard about. Yes, those that give the good ones a bad name. This entire book is filled with negativity, and quite a large portion of it I have found to be untrue. Perhaps with her negative attitude these were in fact her experiences, but a polite person could never have so many bad encounters. I wish I had never wasted my money on this book, or the time to read it. I could have been doing something much more enlightening like watching the grass grow!!! Honestly, there are very few true instances in this book. To get a better perspective from an OPEN MIND and a military spouse, buy Married to the Military.

Summary: Air Force Wives, do not buy this!!
Review: I read the first three chapters in this book before I decided to buy it from the store. Thank God I did. I am a new Air Force officer's wife and this book had NOTHING to do with me or my situation. It scared the crap out of me to hear that I would no longer get to have any form of entertainment, learn how to "spin straw into gold", and kiss cable TV goodbye. This author could make someone want to run screaming away from military life. And I found it insulting about marrying a military man for the benefits, not to mention the whole "give it up, your man will leave for deployment for a year and you'd better just get used to it."
This book has little to nothing to offer any wife or future wife of an officer nor will it aid anyone marrying into the Air Force. As the author states, she knows nothing about the Air Force except we all play golf and live in Myrtle Beach. Sheesh.

Summary: What the recruiter won't tell you...
Review: If you are looking for honest answers to questions about military life, than this is the book for you! The military will not only be your husband's new job, it will have a direct effect on your life, too. This book will tell you what to expect in each stage of his military career, from basic training to your first duty station to deployments. It will also become your reference guide when dealing with finances, tricare, and much more. The author presents information truthfully, while keeping her sense of humor about the trials of military life.

I also recomend this book for seasoned military wives, who will get a kick out of seeing what we have had to learn on our own finally discussed honestly and with such humor.

A big THANK YOU to Hilary for writing the book that needed to be written and for doing such a fabulous job!
