Rating: Summary: A Book for Our Time Review: At a time when many people are hungering for spiritual guidance and fighting a losing battle to care for themselves, Debbie Mandel offers a powerful combined antidote to our stresses and angst in Turn On Your Inner Light. She combines a nurturing tone with a fearless ability to tackle issues that are often discomfiting - deception in ourselves and others, fear and anger. As an author and columnist who writes about work-family balance and societal change, I highly recommend this book!
Rating: Summary: Perfect for Wall Street: Review: "I work on Wall Street and stress comes with the territory. My wife gave me this book suggesting that it would help me decompress. At first I was skeptical as I considered this a woman's book. However, as soon as I read Chapter One, "Training to be Conscious," I felt like the author was speaking directly to me. The book was very easy to read and I learned helpful hands-on hints about being in the moment. I appreciated learning about energy drains and boosters. The exercises were clearly detailed and the illustrations really helped me visualize how to do the exercises. So, I read on. Some of the mind/body prescriptions made me smile. They were highly creative and easy to implement. The chapter on burn-out was relevant and made me realize that I had better start working on reinventing. Also, I enjoyed the chapter on fun and romance-we both did. This book is necessary and enjoyable during these stressful times."
Rating: Summary: It Helped Me See Beyond Cancer Review: I read and followed the steps to freedom outlined in Turn On Your Inner Light. I truly learned how to live after my battle with cancer. I was treated like a little lab rat, spoken about like I was invisible, lost my job, my husband and even custody of my two children. Turn On Your Inner Light showed me that I could do so much more than just survive, I could thrive.
I followed Debbie Mandel's easy to follow suggestions including starting an exercise program. So I began to look at my own world differently. I began by taking control. If I didn't respect myself, who would? I began with the visiting nurse. I easily told her that if she didn't respect me as a human being, I would request another. The nurse's attitude quickly changed. What Happened? The nurse quickly felt my self-respect and responded accordingly. I also exercised my visitation rights and was reunited with my children. And finally and most wonderfully, I am now practicing law again and am having a romance with life.
I took back my power! And if I did it, you can do it!!
Rating: Summary: Gina from NYC Review: I recently saw Debbie speak and I just had to buy her book. She has this energy that just lifts you up and makes you feel strong, so of course "Turn on Your Inner Light" was a must have for me. Once again, Debbie did not dissapoint me, now I have her strength with me at home, whenever I need it. The excercises are easy to do and I am already seeing results-mind body and soul. Oprah-watch out!
Rating: Summary: This is a Must Read. Don't miss it! Review: I was looking for some fresh ideas in stress-management. While I was searching the internet, I discovered Debbie Mandel's site on www.BellaonLine.com. She has a lot of articles posted there on current issues and I really liked what she had to say and the way she said it, a bit differently. Then I saw her book, Turn On Your Inner Light and I bought it. I loved the way the book had 29 specific chapters and gave me strategies for my mind, body, and spirit- the whole me. I started doing the exercises, imaged the visualizations and began to reinterpret the negatives in my life into positives. I'm not on a diet, but I am eating healthier and more frequently as the book recommends. I have more energy and I am doing things, getting out there instead of sitting by the phone and waiting. Like Debbie writes, "I made up my mind to be reasonably happy." The key word as she puts it is reasonable. People need to find out about Debbie Mandel. > >
Rating: Summary: Gina from NYC Review: Mrs. Mandel was my 11th grade English teacher in Yeshiva of Flatbush, Joel Braverman High Scool. She was really a unique teacher. When we were learning "The Scarlet Letter" she would wear a sweater with a scarlet "B" on it (it was up to the students to guess what it meant...and unanimously we all agreed on one). She taught us not to be vague and made us rewrite 195% of all our papers. She did love to kick box so I can see why she left teaching to become the "fitness guru" that she is. Well I wish her the very best luck in life. And even though we all thought she's NUTS, she definitely did help us learn how to write much better. p.s. I never read the book. I found out about her from the Welcome screen on AOL.
Rating: Summary: It helped me see the light! Review: My friend gave me a gift while I was going through an unpleasant divorce and had put on about twenty pounds of frustration. Her gift to me was a book called, Turn On Your Inner Light. I said, "Who is Debbie Mandel and who is she to tell me how to find my balance?" My friend said, "Take it," and closed the door. The book looked pretty enough, so I flipped through the chapters. Unlike any self-help book I had read by the famous people, this book was divided into specific topics. I didn't have to read 200 pages before I knew what to do. I was anxious enough. So I first read the chapter, "Training for Divorce" and I liked the original mind/body prescriptions telling me how to take care of myself, support myself and develop myself. Then I did the workouts and I felt better, especially the one called, "Ducking the blows of recrimination." I finished off with a meditation and I put myself together. I felt lighter and happier. I knew that I would get over this. Then I read the chapter "Training to Love Yourself." I followed her advice. I did the meditation and began to do her interval training workout. At first I did it at the beginner level, now I am advanced. I don't know how much weight I lost, because I threw out my scale, but I went down two dress sizes! Next I read the chapter on "Anger Management," "Burnout," "Insomnia," and "Disappointment." I loved the chapter on "Romance," Intimacy." Now I am up to "The Bedroom." I gave the book to my new boyfriend-I want to start this relationship off right. Turn On Your Inner Light helped me to find my spark and gave me confidence. Now I know who Debbie Mandel is and why she wrote this book. Whoever reads Turn On Your Inner Light will have a powerful life coach.
