Rating: Summary: This program makes sense! Review: About a month ago, I decided I HAD to lose weight. But the sheer quantity of books available overwhelmed me. So rather than buying a book "on spec," I went to the library and browsed their dieting section. Larry North's book was one of several I chose to take home with me. And after reading through each program's premise, I picked Larry. His program is perhaps the most common-sense approach I have ever seen to losing weight and keeping it off. He doesn't make you eat funky foods, or juggle percentages, or even count calories. He emphasizes eating healthy, balanced, low-fat meals on a frequent basis to fuel your body correctly and eliminate cravings. No gimmicks whatsoever. And it REALLY WORKS. I seldom crave bad-for-me, fatty foods anymore. And I'm almost never hungry. At times I actually have difficulty choking down all the food he wants me to eat! The single downside is that the program does not work quickly, at least not for me. But it's not meant to. This is supposed to be a sensible eating and exercise program that you can follow for the rest of your life, not a crash diet. In one month I have lost perhaps four pounds, but it's GONE FOR GOOD. And the program is so easy to follow that I know I can do it until all the weight is gone. I am returning the library's copy of the Slimdown for Life today and I'm here on Amazon to buy my own copy. I'm going to be doing this program for the rest of my life, so I'd better own the guidebook!
Rating: Summary: Easy to understand and follow Review: Great book, it really works and is just so simple.
Rating: Summary: Larry North's SlimDown for Life Review: I have read all of the reviews and I am going tomorrow to buy the book. I will do another review and let everyon know how it worked.
Rating: Summary: It Works! Review: I wasn't very motivated at losing weight, but I bought this book anyway. It was just great. I lost 12 pounds in the first week. As I said, I'm not a very motivated person, so I didn't stay on the program for long. 12 pounds was all I really wanted to lose, but keeping in line with most of Larry North's guidelines, I have managed to keep the weight off. The book includes recipes that are very good and easy to cook. It also includes 60 second workouts that are easy to do and also requires that you do cardio excercise (Larry North suggests walking). There is also a 7 Day Sizedown for those of you looking to lose weight quickly, however, I didn't try that. This is a great book for those looking to lose weight by changing eating habits and exercising.
Rating: Summary: A Truly Sensible Plan Review: My mum bought this book b/c she hated her love handles. I was on a "diet" as well as I wanted to be part of the 'cool' teenage crowd. Seeing all those weight-loss informatals on TV, I rolled my eyes as she paid for the book but being a bit of a bookworm I read it on the car ride home. Bang! I was hooked. He completely educated me on my very bad eating habits he helped me lose lots of weight. Only recently did the book find it's way to my mum's shelf. Those amazing habits though will always stay with me. Thanks Larry
Rating: Summary: Larry North's Slimdown for Life Review: This is a excellent book for teaching you the basics of how your metabolism works and how your body can burn fat by choosing some alternatives in your diet/cooking, and eating 4 or 5 times a day instead of twice. Exercise is 15 to 20 minutes a day of walking and some weigh work with simple very small dumbbells. This is more straight forward and practical than Covert Bailey's Fit or Fat, but less complete. This program will work even, if you are morbidly obese. This is not a diet this is a lifestyle change. Personally, I have lost 30 pounds in 5 months and no longer have sleep apnea (restricted airway during sleep). My ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder ) is greatly dimished. I am more relaxed, have more energy, and have higher metabolism. I also look better and my confidence is up, and I'm dating more often. Terry Pensel
