I can read only one chapter at a time, sometimes even less, because the power and wisdom that Geshe Kelsang expounds is more than I can take in. Rating: Summary: Early guide to Lam-Rim Review: I read this book thinking that it ws going to be just a beginners guide to Buddhism. However, it is much more than that! It is a gentle guide to Lam-Rim teachings in a very precise way. Geshe Kelsang includes a number of very good explanations and illustrations about his topics at hand. In addition, it has a very contemporary feel to it. Many traditinal Lam-Rim texts and writings tend to be at least 30 years old, so the language and examples aren't always so useful. This text is really an exception-he really did an awesome job writing it. Though it might not be good to introduce someone to Buddhism, it is a great guide to furthering ones study of Lam-Rim.
Rating: Summary: Wisdom works! Review: Superbly written overview of The Kadampa Way - a modern-day tradition of Buddhism that brings centuries of wisdom into the present day. This book has really helped me with practical problem-solving - finding moments of peace and clarity to react differently, more positively, in so many ways each day. The two chapters on inner peace and anger at the beginning and end of the book are dynamite!
Rating: Summary: I'd even recommend this to my grandma! Review: The subtitle of Transform your Life interested me -'A blissful journey'. Blissful, quite possibly, but one that it appears you have to work at. As Geshe Kelsang says 'If we do not apply ourself to our spiritual practice no one can grant us liberation from suffering'. What I love about Buddhism in general and this book in particular is that you have to take responsibility for your own spiritual journey - if you want bliss, you have to create it! You cannot wait around for it to fall out of a tree. You cannot depend on anyone else to give it to you. The other thing I love about Buddhism in general and this book in particular is the totally clear meditation instructions that map out every stage you'll travel through on the spiritual path - once you've decided that, yes, it is your responsibility. Sure, you have to put in the effort - but all the instructions are there in this book, and you know how they've been passed down through countless generations, completely tried and tested. This book shines. It never moralizes. I'd happily recommend it to anyone who has ever shown even a passing interest in Buddhist meditation, even my old grandmother :-)
Rating: Summary: A Gift to Transform Suffering into Peace. Outstanding Book! Review: This book has brought me a breathtaking gift to learn HOW to release the ego's needs, desires, and agenda in order to transform all inner pain, suffering and "self cherishing" into understanding, compassion and cherishing others. As a result, pain has left my life, completely. This process is so beautifully laid out in this book, which was recommended to me by a dear soul, and I am eternally grateful. With practice and dedication, you will learn how to rise above the inner conflicts that face you, and how to embrace your natural "Awakened" state. As a result, you will radiate peace and joy, and will be released from the gripping effects of ego, which keep us all trapped in a myriad of negative emotions. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone, from any path, if you want to learn how to bring out your true natural awakened state, and feel the inner peace and joy your deserve. This book is a gift to humanity. It Deserves 10 Stars! Barbara Rose, author of 'Individual Power' and 'If God Was Like Man'
Rating: Summary: Practical guide for facing today's challenges Review: This book is one of the most enjoyable and helpful books I have ever read. It provides information on how to apply buddha's teachings to your everyday life so that you can remain happy all the time. I highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: The title of this book says it all! Review: This really is a life changing book. Geshe Kelsang manages to explain even the most profound teachings in ways that the western reader can immediately identify with and understand. I have read many Buddhist works and all of them have been helpful in my understanding of these teachings in one way or another. But this book, gently and with pristine clarity, shows the "armchair Buddhist" how to actually connect with Buddha's teachings in a realistic and deeply personal way. Don't pass up this book, it delivers big time.
