Rating: Summary: Skeptics - it does work! Review: I am a satisfied BodyFlex customer. Forget the hype, forget about trying to look like Greer Childers, forget the chirpy tone of the book, forget the FCC lawsuit. The breathing and exercises combined do work. I am sorry to hear that Childers marketed another piece of exercise equipment making the same claims, because that will lower her credibility, but I can tell you that BodyFlex simply does deliver what it promises. Childers never said you would lose weight, and she never said it was easy. Many people think it looks too easy, not like "real" exercise. Done properly, it is not easy. But you will feel better, look better, and lose inches (everybody I know has lost inches on this program, but most people are too lazy even to keep up 15 minutes a day).
BREATHING - The breathing most assuredly is not dangerous; it clears your head, sinuses, bronchial tubes. One friend with asthma said it made her nauseous but that it did clear up her breathing. It gives you incredible energy. Childers says BodyFlex is the opposite of yoga. I think she's wrong about this - like most Americans, she does not know what yoga really is (it's not just an easy, gentle system of stretches and meditative breathing). It is simply not true that yogic breathing is all slow and gentle; there are many forms of yoga, and some do use fast inhalations and exhalations and snapping of the diaphragm. I believe BodyFlex breathing is based on some form of yoga and is probably very old. (In my own practice, I have added a few key yoga postures to the BodyFlex workout to make it more well-rounded.)
DIET - Most people will never look like Childers no matter what they do, but I can tell you BodyFlex will stabilize your weight so you don't have to be on a reducing diet. Of course you have to eat sensibly - no exercise program is going to benefit you if you're eating junk food all day. Childers does have some odd ideas about food and advocates a fairly restricted diet, but you don't have to eat such a drastic diet to be fit. This book is not the place to go for diet advice. If you've read up on this subject at all you probably know how to eat a healthy, sensible diet, you just don't do it.
ENERGY - The energy you get is real and you can feel it from the first day. I remember being tired and sluggish from the time I was in my '20s; I started doing BodyFlex after my fifth child, at the age of 43, and now at almost 50 I still do it every day. I'm afraid NOT to do it because my energy level and ability to balance a busy life depends on that 15 minutes of exercise and breathing every morning.
Sorry if this sounds like a commercial, but I'm hooked. I am sorry the FCC has made such a mess with a lawsuit. It's too bad - you would think they'd have criminals to catch, instead of zeroing in on people who just want to improve their lives by becoming healthier. If you read the FCC papers you will notice that not one of the detractors has actually tried this system, even for a week. They are basing their skepticism on diet and fitness experts, but we all know that experts and scientists can be wrong. Try this for one week. Incidentally, you don't need the videos - just the book; and just a few chapters, at that. Get started right away and see what it does for you.
Rating: Summary: I'm using BodyFlex+ video and GymBar - not the book Review: I have been using the BodyFlex+ system of the 20-min. video workout which includes use of the breathing technique and Greer's GymBar -- I have gotten the results she promised so far! After 7 days, I have lost 7 inches. The first two days I did only the instructional Getting Started video. Then the rest of the days I used the actual workout -- 2 of those days I did the workout twice in one day. Now that it will be my 2nd week, I will do it twice a day consistently. I lost the most inches in my upper abs, waist and hips. My lower abs and thighs however just a little bit, but it's only been a week! I have also eaten some fattening foods like pizza and cheese and carbs in the past week, so I do believe you would get better results if you combined this with a healthier diet. I have to say I have not really lost weight in pounds (in fact, some days I checked I actually gained a few pounds) -- this may be because of the muscle toning from the GymBar, since muscle weighs more than fat -- but also because of my diet not being perfect. I can definitely see a difference in my waist & hips, they look smaller. I will say however, like some of the reviewers on here, if you have back problems, be careful using the GymBar. It has an elastic rope attached to it for resistance, and I find it to be stressful lifting the bar behind my neck, especially for the standing position. BE CAREFUL when using this GymBar. A few times the elastic rope snapped back because I am not strong enough yet to hold it steady in place. I have had back problems my whole life so I am concerned about this. But any back pain is no worse than from any other type of exercise I've done. Just take it slowly and don't force the positions if you can't do them. I do believe the breathing exercises really work. For those that say it didn't work -- have you really deeply, intensely done the breathing with all your might? I think Greer Childers doesn't emphasize the importance of the intensity in the video workout. I think you need to do the breathing movements in an exaggerated way to really see results. It makes sense. (Really pull your muscles in, etc.) Anyway, I am happy to get the results she promised so I will keep at it!
Rating: Summary: I LOVE BODY FLEX Review: I purchased the Body Flex + program last year following the addition of my son and 30 lbs! I had seen the infomercial on TV and I was psyched that this could be it! I was to tied down to go to the gym or get into any classes.
Once I got the package, I put the video in, after seeing the breathing techniques, I was laughing so hard, I ejected the tape and vowed to return it, I thought it was complete BULL! Then I saw the infomercial again, and I figured what the heck, I'll try it for a week and see what happens. I lost 4 inches the first week. Not the 7-10 that I had hoped for, but it was better than any result I could get sitting on the couch watching Montel Williams!
I kept with it. I lost over 30 pounds in just over 3 months and over 27 inches. I went from a size 14 to a size 5.(Please note that I also tried to walk 20 minutes a day with baby in the stroller), but her program definitely toned my muscles and helped with those flabby arms & thighs.
After I lost all the weight, I sold the program on Ebay figuring I would never need it again. The person who bought it from me was amazed with their results too!!!
Over time, I gained back 10 lbs from not using it. I was so upset so my husband (yes, the one who laughed at me while doing the breathing) suggested that I do Body Flex again. So I bought another Body Flex + set on Ebay and the older tapes of hers at my local thrift shop. I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of this book and her advanced tape so I can reap all the benefits that Body Flex has to offer!
(By the way, I have been using it only 5 days, and I have already lost 4 pounds and 1/2 inch from my waist and thighs).
The FCC's "claims" about her product are full of hot air, I think Greer may have just gotten mixed up with the wrong marketing group. This program WORKS!
Rating: Summary: It does work! Review: I purchased the body flex system years ago and just put in on the shelf to collect dust after seeing exactly what I had to do. I ruptured a disc in my back and couldn't do my kickboxing anymore, I had to find a program that was easy to do because of my back. I could no longer bend at the waist without my back going completely out to the point I couldn't walk. So,I got the body flex off the shelf, I was willing to try anything......I started the program in Sept of 2003 and I've lost 45lbs. since! I've gone down 5 pants sizes!! Greer tells people to measure themselves, but my back was so bad, I couldn't even bend far enough to measure my legs or my waist. I tell everyone about this program. People are amazed when they see me and when they ask how I did it I do feel silly saying it's a breathing exercise, but they say if it gets those results then who cares what you have to do. My doctors are so impressed they asked that I bring them the book and tape so they could see it first hand. I was seeing my doctor on a weekly basis and on one occassion had lost 6lbs. between visits. I've never seen anything so easy with such incredible results. If you can get past feeling a little silly you will be amazed by the results. One of the things I liked best was the results were immediate so it kept me motivated, if I have to wait weeks to see results I get bored, but when you lose 6lbs. in a week it definitely encourages you to keep going. If I ever had a chance to speak to Greer, I would thank her for giving me a chance to get control back over my weight and I'm able to get out and enjoy the everyday things that I missed so much....like wearing a pair of shorts and feeling comfortable about it. Without this program, I would have continued to gain more weight, making my back worse and getting more depressed. If you've tried everything and feel like there just isn't anything that actually works, you have to try this program. Good luck and don't give up.
Rating: Summary: Some Results but not enough to brag! Review: I read this book in September 2003. I started doing the exercises right away. In addition, I continued to do my usual cardio (5x's per wk), yoga (3x's per wk) and weight routines (2x's per wk). I noticed a difference in my figure (much tighter), but I wasn't sure if it was thanks to Greer...yet. In January, I added another solution to my weight loss efforts. I read The Calcium Key (you can find it on Amazon) and started to incorporate 3 servings of calcium per day (getting it through food, not supplements). Over the past year, I had read in different fitness/health magazines that calcium might help increase fat burning potential. However, the research findings were only preliminary. This book explains how calcium can help your weight/fat loss efforts and the chemical process behind it. I highly recommend this book. In February 2004, I was diagnosed with a herniated disc and haven't been able to exercise for the past two months. As an exercise junky and someone who has struggled with my weight in my past, it really scared me. I panicked that I might gain a ton of weight if I couldn't exercise, but I knew that I had no choice in the matter and had to give myself time to heal.... It is now May and I can happily report that I haven't gained any weight since February!! I haven't lost any, but I have maintained my size 6 figure (I am 5'8" and weigh approximately 143 lbs.). I credit the Bodyflex breathing exercises, 3 servings of calcium, walking and a relatively healthy diet. Please read Be A Loser and The Calcium Key!!
Rating: Summary: Definitely not as easy as it sounds! Review: I've been doing Greer's exercise plan for 3 weeks. I know I am doing it correctly, but I have not lost 1 inch. I do believe I am one of the many people she describes in her book that has a slow metabolism, but I am also taking estrogen so it's likely that for me it's much more difficult to lose inches as easily as others might. I'm not giving up. Her book has me motivated in a way I haven't been in a long time. I want to lose inches, weight and be healthy for the rest of my life. I have changed my diet, as she recommends, in addition to the exercise program, and I have lost 11.8 lbs. I suppose most of it was water weight. But, I do have high hopes that her life long plan will eventually work for me. It's my new life line!
Rating: Summary: You've GOT TO TRY THIS....it really does work! Review: I've been doing this workout for only 4 days & am already energized, sleeping soundly @ nights(something I haven't done for about 4 months due to stress & everyday life!)! And while I haven't measure myself, my clothes already feel loose & big on me! This is what the average person needs! Besides that, I like it that it only takes me 15 minutes a day. That is another reason I bought this book. I'm 15 yrs old, a highschooler & I have a job. Time is "of the essence" in my house! This is perfect! I can do it in the time it takes for most people to put on their makeup! Another thing this workout has done for me is it's helped clear up my acne! It's true! I am using a natural acne medication(I have very sensitive skin & can't wear makeup or use anything with chemicals in it.), but I was still having problems on my arms. But this workout has helped alot! That, and a sensible diet. So...buy the book!!!!! It really does work!!!! It's all TRUE! Just try it! What do u have to lose by trying it...well, except that flab!

I can't do much of any other form of exercise right now because I hurt my foot and just going from one room to another is hard enough. I am trying to eat better for my health, but even when I was on a diet, and did aroebics twice a day I never lost so many inches. It would usually would take me 2 months of exercise and diet to lose just an inch. Already I have lost 1 1/2 inches off my hips and an inch off my thighs. People are even saying to me you look smaller. I didn't think this program was going to work either until I saw these results and I've only lost 6 lbs. but it looks like I have lost so much more. Rating: Summary: It works but.... Review: This program definitely works but if you only got a few inches to loose like me then you will find results that only appear slowly. I only need to loose about 4 inches on my mid section and i've been doing bodyflex for a month already. My body did tone up but sadly I only lost an inch because when you have less fat then results appear quite slower then obese people. If your obese I noticed that you'll get better results to start with. Although on the other hand, one inch is alot if you've been eating 24/7 with ice cream and all!
