Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Reality Check Review: I am sooo sick of people bashing Scientology, saying it's a cult or whatever else they makeup. I read this book, Fundamentals of Thought, and had for the first time in my life felt that finally, someone had some concrete information on how life works. AS I was reading it, I was told by other people who were not Scientologists about how 'bad' it all is and thus my viewpoint was a little blurred by there lies. Finally, I asked myself whether or not I wanted the truth or a bunch of BS. Fundamentals of Thought is amazing. It's unbelievably logical and doesn't go in circle like some philosophers do. It gets to the point, and by god, it hits stuff on the nail. You can actually read the book, and go ahead and apply it to any situation in your life! Scientology is meant for people who ask lots of questions and are not satisfyied until everything makes sense. If you've been a victim of people telling you BS about the subject or are just intreguid at life, read this book.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Incredible! I gained so much from this book! Review: I have been searching for answers for a long time. I had previously read many self help books but this along with Hubbard's other books, Dianetics, and "A New Slant on Life" are simply the most practical and truthful books I have ever read. I can actually use this information and apply it to my life immediately, and it works!!! I'm so thankful that Hubbard wrote these books because I finally feel like someone was able to weed through the mass of unuseful data and compile some very user friendly truths for everyone to gain from! I now understand more about my spiritual self, which is me, and not something esoteric or separate from me!

Review: Since I've now 30 years of experience in scientology, 8 years in as a leader, and 22 out as a much known critic of the cult, I presume nobody waits for a congratulation of L. Ron Hubbard's worlks. Indeed: I hate to say that this guy has written some few texts of interest, but has mixed them with his brainwashing methods, trapping hundreds of thousands of people, destroying their lives, and leading many to suicide, despair, and unhappiness.

Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Cult Propaganda Review: The general area of Scientology has supporters and detractors alike. Hubbard defines the human being within a three-part triangle. It consists of the mind, body and the spiritual dimension. The reactive mind has the well-known stimulus/response mechanisms which underlie many behavioral theories. The theory of the Universe points toward a higher purpose or being. Our attempts at education can be stymied by the inability to explain many different types of phenomena. Rationality has many different kinds of dimensions; namely, self-dynamics, sex, group relations, existence and other life forms i.e. animal and plant life. The famous 4 elements are referenced by Hubbard. These are freedom, barriers, purpose and the ultimate choice. The theory of the universe admits to infinite time and space together with a spiritual dimension and infinite being or state of existence. The author aspires to an implementation of Scientology without great conflicts/struggles coupled with the freedom to aspire to greater heights. The methods strive toward an evolutionary march toward congruent goals rather than a chaotic revolutionary approach. Human rights, free speech and a saner earth are the mainstay of Hubbard's philosophy in its implementation. This work could serve a useful purpose as an adjunct to existing philosophical thought. The ideas contained herein certainly merit debate in the academic arena of ideas.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Pure drivel Review: There will be 2 types of review for this crapfest - 5 stars from $cientologists, and 1 star from everyone else. $cientology is pure drivel from a deluded sci-fi writer started in the 50's. He also happened to be quite overweight, smoke heavily (and used young girls as ashtray-holders on his big yacht). Some of my family has been into $cientology. Luckily, most got out. Unfortunately, a few are still caught up in the secrecy and mystic of the "org" (that's a church to you and me), particularly the one out in Hollywood that has the flashing lights and looks like a casino in Las Vegas. I've never seen a stranger, more controlling group of people in my life. They have a whole division dedicated to the "Celebrity Center", which makes the most of the few celebrites who publically proclaim to be members - as if we care. They buy their own books and cycle them around to inflate sales figures and make them appear important. Bookstores report getting "new" books with their imprint in them already. I read Dianetics a long time ago just out of curiosity. It is the most poorly-written book I've ever read. I don't mean just because of the silliness and unbelievability - but the actual technical aspects of writing are atrocious. I guess Captain Ron was his own editor. He jumps around from one paranoia to another, repeats himself, etc. If it took more than 2 hours to write, I would not believe it. Read "L. Ron Hubbard - Madman or Messiah?" written by his son (now suicidally deceased). Look at the pictures of the smoking, overweight "genius" lovingly referred to as "Ron" by his followers. Find out about the Sea-Org, who are the "priviledged" ones who slave (sorry, serve) on the yacht. Read "Dianetics" if you must for an inkling into his money-making fantasy. Get more information about behind-the-scenes antics, lies, and ludicrousness of $cientology here: http://www.xenu.com Don't take it from me - make up your own mind. Just don't let $cientology do it for you. Just recently (6/9/04) the San Francisco Chronicle printed a full two-page warning about $cientology infiltration of schools under the guise of Narconon, the $cientology-based anti-drug program. I am all for anti-drugs, but not at the expense of these guys. The 5 medical experts consulted by the Chronicle all denounced the supposed science of the drug treatments (saunas which would sweat out the toxins in a black ooze, niacin doses, belief that fat holds the toxins and can lead to flashbacks). $cientology will swear that Narcanon is a separate entity, but all the Narconon people are $cientology cult members, and their reports go as high as Ron's wife. They use $cientology terms such as the "tone scale" and refer to other techniques they use in training to separate you from your money. I must post anonymously or I might be hunted down and persecuted by them. I'm deadly serious. I would not be the first.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A True Understanding Of Life Review: This book goes over the basics of Scientology and explains them in a fascinating and practical way. This was the first book I read on the subject and I think what I enjoyed about it the most was that I could try out the ideas for myself. I didn't just have to believe or accept anything, the book challenged me to think for myself. The datum that the hightest purpose in the universe is the creation of effect explained to me a great deal about the behavior of myself and others and actually made me much more tolerant of others. The chapter on games and how they apply to life enabled me to see where I was getting involved with activities that were not what I really wanted and I was then able to make changes so I was doing what I wanted and I felt much happier with myself and my life. I could go on, but I would fill up the whole page. I will end by saying that I recommend this book highly. Read it and make your life go the way you want it to.
