Summary: The Packard Weight Health Plan
Review: (...)I have not only read Dr. Packard's Weight Health Plan, but have read it several times and constantly have the book with me to use as a reference. I have been practicing this plan for 8 months and am truly a new and different person. Changes do not come immediately and the work is not easy, but with the help of Dr Packard and myself we are making great progress. I am now in my sixty's and my weight health is so much better, I have more energy, my thinking is not confused and muddled anymore, I have confidence in myself make wise choices. I am happier and can cope and enjoy life to its fullest. I have not had good weight health ever and did not realize this until I went to Dr. Packard and he helped me with this. The program is not only about losing weight it is about feeling good as a person.
The program takes a bit of work and understanding of you, Dr. Packard is a very conciseness and caring Dr. and truly works with me in a positive manner, which is so inspiring not to hear negativity about yourself. The food plan works very well as the protein breakfast gets you started and the complex carbohydrate lunch (which you can include some protein) keeps the body and metabolism in good health, and a dinner you can enjoy as well as having a dessert and a glass of wine three times a week.
I find this plan very flexible and it has helped me so much that my family wonders what happened to their Mom and likes the person she now is.
Please do not look at this as a diet as it is much more. If you live in or near Millbrook, NY or even further please take time to talk to or see Dr. Packard I think you will be pleased with what you learn from him. I live in a neighboring town and am so fortunate to have him here. As the saying goes if you are patient and wait for your success to come along it will. I thank Dr. Packard and his team for believing in me and giving me the insight to be the real me.

Summary: More than a diet
Review: Dr. Packard's Weight Health Plan book, explains that their are many facets of maintaining a proper weight health. That all of these facets need to be in balance for proper weight health to be accomplished. If they are not in balance, we might obsess about our body image, crave foods, feel insecure and have body's undermind our ability to maintain a consant weight.

I had made an appointment with Dr. Packard, and I am glad I did. He began me on the process he explains in his book, any by my second appointment to his office, I could not believe how much better I felt. I was like a new person, with a new attitude, a new sense of purpose, and with a new vision for the future. I saw myself in a better light, I began making better decission about the foods I eat, and I have even begun a mild exercise program.

Maintaining a proper weight health is not an overnight process, it is a life long process. It takes time and effort from the medical team that is supporting you, and from yourself. Thank you Dr. Packard, and your entire staff, for your support and constant encouragement. I am on the road to a better weight health, and I feel better now than I have in a long long time. I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Summary: Sound science
Review: I am a nurse who has been actively interested in nutrition for over 25 years. As a vegan, an all-protein breakfast IS a bit of a challenge for me. However, I found Dr. Packard's scientific rationale and his reasonable approach to weight loss so appropriate, that I contacted him about how to translate this to a vegetarian version. What I discovered was a compassionate and gentle practitioner who truly cares for each of his clients as a unique individual. Too many people want to lose weight for the wrong reasons. Dr. Packard's approach advocates weight health, not magic bullets. There are two things that I found truly unique about his approach. One, he uses the relatively new research on neurotransmitters, that began with Candace Pert's work, to explain the craving brain that derails so many of us in our diet strategies. Two, he has developed an innovative definition of the fat we carry, for which he has coined the term "fat jacket." We need a certain amount of fat for health. He even has a formula to help us calculate appropriate weight loss, based on the amount of fat we need to stay healthy. He also explains why too much fat is so terribly bad for our health. Almost all of my total joint replacement patients are overweight, often seriously overweight. He explains why excess weight can affect joint health. If you care about your quality of life, this is an important book to read. He advocates a slow and sensible approach to weight management and is very honest in telling his readers that this must be a life-long health routine, and it must include exercise. The truth is there are no magic bullets but it CAN really help you to identify what neurotransmitters in your brain are making your goal of weight loss more difficult for you. Although my weight is within normal range, I discovered in reading his book that I could improve my weight health by fine-tuning my fat jacket with some simple dietary changes and regular exercise. It has made a great difference. Most women who are in their 40's (like me) struggle with the change in body composition that too often occurs in this decade. This is a great book for them! Enjoy!

Review: I am lucky to live close enough to Dr. Packard to become one of his patients. His book is close to being in the office with him. His compassion for people with our problems (obesity) is nothing short of amazing. Dr. Packard understands that it is not just a matter of willpower, as many of my thin friends have counselled me about, with good intentions. I have been on the Packard weight health plan for about 1.5 months in that short amount of time I am close to needing the next size smaller pants. I feel better my cravings have been taken away by medications Dr. Packard has perscribed. I can only tell you that if you have a serious weight problem this program and Dr. Packard is your best bet to become a normal person with weight health.

Summary: The Packard Weight Health Plan
Review: I have battled excess weight my entire life and have unsuccessfully kept my weight off even though I have tried many diets. For the first time in my life after having read the book I see how important your mental health is while trying to obtain weight health. I have taken antidepressants for years but am taking different ones now and after filling out the charts on different elements of safety, happieness etc, I now see the connection .Now I will concentrate on weight health with certain foods and walk which will give me mental and weight health. FInally a Doctor has written a book that explains why diets don't work. I can do anything if it isn't radical and the food plan is just a few changes and free from rigidity. Thank You Doctor Packard. Ps I took the book into my Therapist and he is going to recommend it to his patients who are searching for a way to gain control .

Summary: If You Want to Be Healthy and Lose Weight, Here's the Plan
Review: I'm so glad I found Dr. Packard's book. Frankly, his no-nonsense, down-to-earth approach appealed to me more than any other book I've read on the subject. I found the Packard Weight Health Plan so intriguing, and so easy to follow, that I decided to make an appointment with Dr. Packard. I found his book to be easy to read and follow, and I found the Doctor to be the caring man he portrays himself to be. He's not giving us a "magic pill" that will last a short time. He gives us a life-long plan (with full explanation and step-by-step guide, recipies too) for being healthy and weight smart. This plan is working for me. The other plans haven't worked for me. I feel so much better, and I'm not beating myself up for not having been successful in the past. I have no doubt that this is the plan for me, and for others. Keep in mind, this plan can also help those who aren't necessarily interested in weight loss, but who just want to be healthier overall. If you try the plan, you will like it. And, Dr. Packard is always accessible, either on his website, or by phone if you're not lucky enough to live close by as I do. I've already recommended the book and the plan to several friends across the country, and I've told my primary care physician about it too. The bottom line here is: get the book, read the book, then read it again. Try what he says and then try it again. Then when you notice that you can walk a few steps more, and that you have more energy because you ate only protein at breakfast, then try it again. It's a day by day process. But, let me tell you, it's worth it. I wish I had this book so many years ago. But things come when they're supposed to. I'm just glad I saw his book in the bookstore because I initially when to buy another book. Do the journaling, take the vitamins, go to the website and fill out the questionnaire and get the assessment. At the very least, you'll find out more about yourself than you ever thought you would, you'll be healthier, happier, and you will lose weight. And, that's what the Packard Weight Health Plan is all about. Thanks to Dr. Packard.
