Rating: Summary: Through an email Review:
Funny how the internet works. An email sent with jokes contained in it is sent from one friend to another to another and then to me. I saw the link for the web site that contained a book, this one titled Nightmares Echo. I bought and read it, after tears and sorrow comes the story of a woman that endured a terrible childhood filled with incest, child abuse and turmoil. But as I read the book, I read much more than just a sad life. I read the courage, I read the strength, I read the hope...I read between the lines and found myself challenging this woman to move forward and live a full life. I learned that strength is greater than any one person. was it fate that brough me to this book? I don't know. Will writing this review make you want to read this book, will it bring you inner peace? I don't know...
If you get nothing else through reading this book, you will find hope!
Rating: Summary: Clear and to the Point Review: A reviewer/Mom and Advocate writes: I have posted a review under 'A Child Called It' as well. I believe both books should be read hand in hand....what Katlyn Stewart's Nightmares Echo is to sexual abuse, David Pelzers book is to Child Abuse. Both books show absolute courage beyond thier years. These books should go on for years to come. They teach us so many lessons, as parents as Teachers and Humans on this Planet. We must understand the words of these Authors and do something to stop what is happening around us to the future children of our world. If you dont read them to understand this. read them then to understand the lessons learned on what it takse to have courage, determination and a heart to survive. Ms. Stewart I believe will stand the test of time.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book,Wonderful Healing Review: First and foremost, I want to give you my review of the book, "Nightmares Echo". This is an excellent book, a story of a child that must deal with abuse. First at the hands of her father and then later at the hands of men in her life. The book details that abuse, yet, also shows the reader how even though she pushed the pain down for years, it resurfaced and almost destroyed her. Through the love of a man and her own inner strength she overcame the pain and was able to heal. She explains so much to us, including the need to seek out help from specialist to overcome such pain.
Now, upon coming to this site to write this review, I found a terrible review was written. in reading the review, my mouth was dropped. Apparently, the reviewer, K. Laurich, did not read what I did.
It is stated that the story lacks telling what happened to the father regarding the abuse. Yet, if the book had been read, it would have been realized that the father got away with everything he did against his family through manipulations and deceit. Perhaps, reading the book again might help the reviewer to answer the questions they have.
That's my opinion. I have read about 5 pages of the reviews for this book, and most feel as I do and read what I have.
I also recommend: Running With Scissors,A Paper Life and Yes, everything David Pelzer has done.
Rating: Summary: Grammar Echos Review: I agree with the other 1 star reviews. This seems as if it was written by a middle-school student. The mistakes take away from the writing and believe me, the writing cannot afford it! After reading the book, I feel as if I know nothing about the author. The book was missing so MANY important details. For example, once the mother walked in and caught her husband abusing her daughter, WHY WAS NOTHING DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It seems as if the father got away scot-free with sexually abusing his daughter, her friend, and murdering his wife. It kind of reminded me of the Dave Pelzer books - highly unbelievable and unlikely. I don't even feel sorry for the author because it is so poorly written and unbelievable!
Rating: Summary: what on earth! Review: I do not mean to undermine the atrocities Ms. Stewart endured, however, I found myself unable to take the book seriously due to the unending string of ....'s in the writing, the apalling grammatical errors, the misspellings, punctuation mistakes, etc. I was unable to finish the book as they became my main focus. I felt I was reading a middle school essay and wanted to grab my red pen! I wondered, as did another reader, if this was a self-published book. Had to be.
Rating: Summary: A GREAT READ! Review: Katlyn Stewart's NIGHTMARES ECHO is a hear-wrenching, brutally honest and poignant book that will make a difference in readers who have suffered and surmounted the evil was subjected to. I found myself unable to put the book down. Reading it not only helped me but convinced me that it's essential for survivors to tell their story. I highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: Highly Recommended Review: Kudos to the author for her bravery. This is a book that will inspire. A true triumph of the spirit. It should be made into a movie. I loved it and highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Can Feel It Review: Like the author of this book, I also went through incestual abuse. I never realized the pain I was pushing down until I read this book. It brought my past back in to view and made me see my own behavior. But more than just awaking the past, this author taught me how to let go and look to the future. I am really impressed and agree with a reviewer on a prior page, I would really like to see this book be made in to a television movie for all parents to watch.
Other books I am impressed with: Running With Scissors, Dry, a Child Called It and Lost Boy
Rating: Summary: Powerful Message Review: Ms. Stewart does well to send a Powerful Message to listen, look, learn and not to turn your back on what is going on around us. This book is clear and percise..there is no fantasy, no big words no one will understand. She writes in a clear, emotional, driven manner. The abuses she suffered I.E. Child abuse,Molestation, Spousal Abuse...gives us clear images of what it is like to be on that side of the fence. I also found that as I read the book, toward the end, it was actually a type of Romance. A great man with compassion walked into Ms. Stewart's life and turned it around...showing her what real love can be. The struggles, turmoil, walls she had built up around her-he defeated them all. Together they stood firm in thier love. I don't know of a better love story there. This is highly recommended, you cant put it down till your finished. Maddie Youngblood, a fan of memoirs
Rating: Summary: Worthwhile Read Review: Nightmares Echo is the heart wrenching account of an abused child's experiences from puberty into adulthood. Children who are abused often find ways to retreat within themselves from the pain. Once they are no longer in the abused situation they believe life can return to normalcy and that happiness will come. This is a misconception though, because abuse takes on many forms and these kids are mostly lambs to the slaughter when it comes to dealing with complications in their lives. Through the eyes of the young child in this book the reader understands the true terror and disillusionment that scars an innocent soul when those whom they trust hurt, terrorize and seek to maintain the illusion of a normal family. This child took on the guilt for every misfortune that befell her and little by little she came to believe that she was undeserving of a good life. Only with the love and care of someone whom withstood the test of time does she find her way for a chance of true happiness and is acquainted with the courage that she possesses. This book is revealing in that it gives a true picture of the long lasting and devastating effects of abuse that follow these kids into adulthood. Adults are after all grown up forms of the child that dwells within.
