Rating: Summary: 211 pages of self-discovery Review: After reading the first chapter of this book I thought to myself, "I am so silly for buying this, this has nothing to do with me." But I toughed it out and continued reading, and soon realized I was simply in denial. Now, after completing this book, I can honestly say that it has done wonders for my ability to better understand myself as both a woman and suffering human being.I never realized how plagued I've been because of my thoughts and misbeliefs about the one person I should know the most about--myself. During the course of this book, I became a psychologist to all of my friends and family. Each time they did something I recalled from the book, I'd tell them and help them work through it. The honesty and truth within the pages of this book have helped everyone that knows me. I have learned to be much more aware of myself, and am just beginning a long road in finding my authentic self.
Rating: Summary: This book not only help me...but also helped my marrage. Review: I starting liking this book right away. I outline parts so I can go back continuously and review it. I found parts that helped me step up my self esteem and things that I was doing wrong and could fix. My husband is a recovering Alcoholic and it is hard living with him and being myself. When I stood up for myself and told him how I felt..I believe he understood and appreciated me for it. I am not quite through reading it but I already can tell the difference. I have told my friends about this book and they plan to but it also. Again it is wonderful.
Rating: Summary: I highly recommend this book! Review: I was very skeptical when I picked up this book but despite the inevitable self-help jargon, I have found it profoundly helpful. In fact, I am giving copies to all of my friends as gifts. The basic concepts are laid out in an easy to understand manner and the tone is kind and understanding. Lest it be too philosophical, there are activities to help the reader identify her own issues and success stories supporting each topic as it is discussed. I highly recommend it to any woman even slightly interested in building her self-esteem.
Rating: Summary: This book turned my life around Review: This book in itself is the main reason that my life went from being totally unbearable to being incredible. It is easy to read and understand, so practical too! I have reread it at least 4 times, too. I not only recommend this book for women who are struggling with dysfuntional "issues" but for ALL women. We are all carrying baggage of some sort. Some of my male friends have used this book and found it to be helpful to them as well. I can not recommend it highly enough. It makes a tremendous gift when you wish that there was something that you could do for your friends when you don't know WHAT to do for them. Sometimes they need more than an "I'm here and I care"... this book puts that statement right into their hands where they can really use it! The best $$$$$$$$ I have ever spent on any book.
Rating: Summary: Finally! Review: This is simply a great book! I have read any number of books on women's psychology, spirituality, and health. This book continued to engage me chapter after chapter; rather than requiring a specific set of religious beliefs or adherence to the author's pet expressions, this book simply presents ideas and reasons behind behavior and emotions, along with examples of people (including the author) who have suffered periodically from lack of self-esteem and emotional strength. While a lot of the text relates to mothers and wives, there is enough that is relevant for women who are neither. I am recommending this to all of my female friends, regardless of how strong and confident they are - reading this is not and admission of weakness, but rather an understanding of where our weaknesses may come from and how to prevent them from impacting our lives in a very negative way.
Rating: Summary: When I needed to feel good about me, this was the best Review: When I separated from my husband with much self doubt about where I was going to turn for strength, I found this book. Along with the co-dependence of alcoholism, I realized my emotional co-dependence. Through the tools that this book has taught me such as setting my limits on my emotional well-being, I have discovered another way to communicate that makes me feel good about me. The examples in this book from the author's clients are very valuable, and something that I really related to. I highly recommend this for anyone that wants to feel good about themselves.
Rating: Summary: One of the best friends I've ever had! Review: Years ago I opened this book and recognized myself in too many ways. Through gentle nudging and no nonsence from Sue, I was encouraged to admit "Hey, that's me!", followed by understanding, then action to change. This book changed my life, and continues to do so, as every so often when I can feel myself slipping into self doubt &/or martrydom I pick it up again. I can't lend it out because I have highlighter all through it! But I have sincerely recommended it dozens of times, & will continue to do so.
