Rating: Summary: Wonderful! Review: As a therapist who works exclusively with eating disorders, I find myself using this workbook again and again with my clients. It is creative, compassionate, honest and thorough. Jam-packed with information and suggestions, clients can work through exercises at their own pace. Thus far each client who has used the workbook has benefited. They often cite the contributions from recovered people as providing them with hope when they are most lacking it. Whether you are working on recovery yourself or a clinician working with people with eating disorders, this book is a "must have." Very well done!
Rating: Summary: Nothing New! Review: Besides the fact that this is totally overpriced, there is nothing in this workbook that I have not read before. Many of the exercises are in other workbooks that I have already purchased. Although I believe the author tried to convince the readers that she understands what it is like to have an eating disorder, I am not sure that she really does understand. I have reviewed many workbooks for eating disorders and this is one of my least favorites.
Rating: Summary: It helped me so much Review: I have anorexia for a year and it is so hard. I feel like nobody understands and my friends think I am weird and don't want to be friends anymore but when I read this book I felt like finally someone understands and I don't have to live like this anymore. I am not all better yet but I am working hard and this book helps a lot. I wish my friends would read it and that teachers could understand that I don't do this on purpose. The chapter for parents helped my mom alot. I hope anybody that has an eating disorder can read ths book and get help. And I hope that someone writes a book for friends.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful! Review: I have had an eating disorder for almost four years now and I read as many books as I can on eating disorders. I am not currently in therapy because I can't afford it but this book is helping me to practice some old things that I have worked on and has also taught me new things to do as I try to recover from my eating disorder. I recommend this book to anyone that has been struggling with an eating disorder. It is great! I particularly like the chapters on athletes and the road map. It gives you lots of ideas of how to address body image and how to think rationally. There are lots of really good books out there and this one joins the list!
Rating: Summary: A lot of the same material, done again Review: I think the concept of the book is a great one, but it would be helpful to talk more about recovery from a personal perspective. The book has a lot of material that I have read before, it is just rewritten a different way.I also think it is too pricey.
Rating: Summary: Begin your journey to recovery! Review: The Eating Disorders Journey to Recovery workbook arrived in the mail last weekend and it is stocked full of information. I found the personal stories throughout the book extremely helpful. Laura Goodman and Mona Villapiano touched on various aspects of Anorexia, Bulimia, and Compulsive Overeating including: signs and symtoms, body image, spirituality, substance abuse, trauma and abuse, and how to go about finding a good therapist. I also liked the fact that they included a chapter about how men also suffer with eating disorders. There is also a chapter for family and friends with ideas about how to help someone who has an eating disorder or whom you might suspect has one. I highly recommend this workbook for people with eating disorders as well as therapists.
Rating: Summary: Not Impressed Review: The worksheets and exercises were just old material rewritten. I was surprised to see many things that I already did in my therapy, like the letter to food.
Rating: Summary: This book was so helpful Review: This book is a much needed book. It has a unique flair and is incredibly invaluable for anyone in recovery. I have been using it with my therapist and have found it to be helping my recovery above and beyond what I would be doing in just my sessions alone. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a task oriented approach to therapy.
Rating: Summary: This book was so helpful Review: This book was so helpful in helping me better understand eating disorders and how they act as coping mechanisms. I used to think it was just about the wish to look better and lose weight. I now really understand how psychological it is, and this book was so insightful in helping me put together the skills and tools I need to recover from my eating disorder. I would, without hesitation, recommend this book to anyone struggling with an eating disorder.
