Summary: Scientifically incorrect - be careful!
Review: Before rating all of the negative reviews as being unhelpful and criticizing anyone who brings up actual facts, please do some research and find out the truth.

Yes, eating fruits and vegetables is healthy - I'm sure most of us didn't need a book to tell us that. However, eliminating certain food groups completely is NOT healthy, and nor is there any scientific evidence to support the "food combining" theory. Anyone who has ever taken a biology or nutrition course at the high school level should be able to recognize the obvious ridiculousness of the pseudoscience presented in this book.

No, do NOT take the suggestion of another reviewer and disregard negative reviews - they bring up valid, scientifically verified points that I can't believe so many people are willing to ignore. Many of the claims made by Harvey Diamond are simply FALSE, period. Others are half-truths, twisted versions of some vaguely scientific fact designed to make you believe the false nutritional information in this book.

Read a review written by someone who is actually qualified - a Registered Dietitian, or RD, which is a title that is protected by law so that only those who meet all of the qualifications and education requirements can call themselves that....>They both are written by RD's - in other words, people with a real, valid educational background in nutrition, who are qualified to give nutritional advice.

Harvey Diamond, on the other hand, possesses a "PhD" from an unaccredited school that was formed by a high school dropout who believed that viruses do not exist. The school has since been forbidden from using the word "College" in its name and from granting academic credits or degrees.

PLEASE, before you believe ridiculous claims such as those made by Harvey Diamond, do some research! It seriously disturbs me that so many people could believe such obviously untrue statements. Please be careful and find out the scietific facts before you go believing everything you read in some book.

Summary: Disregard Negative Reviews
Review: Don't take the advice of someone who's never followed the diet; North Americans have become the most obese people on the planet by following the instructions of such health professionals as doctors, nutritionists, and the school lunch lady.

This works, pure and simple. I lost sixty-five pounds by adhering to the principles outlined in the original FIT FOR LIFE, and three years later, I've never felt better. Although I can certainly understand how following a strict vegetarian diet and eating plenty of fruits and vegetables could be considered "life threatening." (!) Who's the wacko here?

Ask yourself this question before you decide to listen to someone with an agenda belittling this diet; who stands to benefit from your ill health? Harvey Diamond? Or some schmuck with an MD and the scruples God gave a rattlesnake? It's the MD's job to make money from you being sick, so you do the math.

It's your choice. The only way you'll ever know for sure is to try it out and listen to *your* body, not your doctor, not a nutritionist, and not some misguided reviewer who suffers from a bad case of the Know-It-Alls.

Summary: Preventing Cancer and Disease
Review: I am writing a very favorable review regarding this book. I have read the original "Fit for Life" and "Fit for Life II" and I must say this book in combination with the original Fit for Life is a complete guide to the prevention of cancer and disease. Where it appears that most of the medical community is consumed with curing cancer and disease AFTER it happens it is refreshing to see someone concentrating on how to prevent it from EVER happening.

The chapters on the 7 stages of disease and the explanation of the lymph node system are easy to understand. I always liked the way Mr. Diamond's books read as if he is sitting there in the room with you and explaining it personally. His excitement and passion for this subject can be felt as you read and the analogies he uses are wonderful in making sense of complex subject.

Please don't think of this as simply a diet book. If you only followed some of the principles some of the time I'll bet the majority of the population would be 100% better off than they are right now. I like the fact that he advocates using it as much as possible and when you can rather than forcing an all or nothing situation. Yes you can lose weight and have more energy than you ever thought possible following these principles. But, even if you never lost an ounce, the feeling of being able to participate in preventing disease in you body as opposed to sitting back and feeling a helpless victim as to when and if it may or may not ever hit you is empowering.

It could very well be the best $...you ever spend.

Summary: Everyone can take something positive away from this book.
Review: I don't deny that the "science" presented in any of the Fit for Life books can sometimes sound elementary at best. But I think the bigger picture is that the book is uplifting and inspirational. Used as a guideline for going about one's daily eating habits, these ideas make a world of difference. Perhaps the reasons provided are not scientifically accurate. But then again, it's not like you get a free bottle of "mystery pills" with each book. All he's really promoting is a move back to a more natural approach to fueling our bodies. We have become such a junkfood society, it's embarrassing. There are so many people out there who feel a burger/fries/soda combo is a decent meal. What's so wrong with reading a book by a man who is trying to point out the ludicrous nature of so many of our commonplace bad habits? Afterall, what type of epidemic do we have in this country? We're not underweight, we're not protein-deficient, we're not living healthfully into our senior years- the fact is we're overweight and unhealthy as a society. And our quality of life diminishes much too soon as a result. So look around the next time you're in the mall, or at the local restaurant- try to find people you think WOULDN'T benefit from learning how to eat more healthfully. I've personally experienced enormous benefits from doing just SOME of the things promoted in Fit For Life and its successors. And I've known and helped others who've been just as fortunate. You don't have to treat these books as your bible, just try to take away some of the beneficial and motivational advice, and apply it to your life. I've read a number of books on healthy eating practices, and to be honest, many of them say similar things. The important difference is that this book is enjoyable. It's easy to read. And that's the best way to get this information to more people. If every person read this and made even a FEW healthy changes in their lives, just think of the impact. My wish is for more people to take control of their health by making good choices each and every day. And who knows- you may even enjoy the food being recommended here. What have you got to lose? Isn't your health, your body, your happiness, and your ability to enjoy the world around you worth it?

Summary: Too much
Review: I just finished reading this book and I am recommending it to all my friends, especially those who have physical problems, especially cancer.

When one mentions cancer, people are more horrified by it than by heart disease, though the latest is leading the statistics as far as deaths. Why? Because of the treatment: when one talks about cancer, people immediatly get horrifying images of chemotherapy treatments, losing one's hair, radiation, and so on. I never believed that the current medical approach to cancer (not to mention other ilnesses) was the right one, nor that it was a real solution. After all, as Mr. Diamon says in this book "noone can be poisoned back to health".

I met few people though who were afraid of cancer the way I was before reading this book. After having a case of breast cancer happening in my family, every time I had pain somewhere was for me a great scare, and I was afraid I might have cancer in the body part that was hurting. I know, silly, but cancer is scary and no one so far has come up with a solution. Or better, no one had, until Mr. Diamond wrote this book. He says we should concentrate on prevention, for all diseases, not on cure! And he's right. In this book he explain how to prevent and reverse disease. You need this data, everyone does. And thanks to him, I am not so afraid of cancer anymore, as I know I am preventing it and if it would occur I could cure it without going through the nightmare (for the patient), money making (for the pharma industry) treatments advised by the medical community.

Summary: Google Harvey Diamond
Review: I learned about the "Diamond Method" from Tony Robbin's Living Health seminar and of course I now wish I had done some research before I wasted my money (on both Living Health and Fit for Life).

Turns out the diet is based on Natural Hygiene pseudoscience. You may lose weight following it, it is a diet after all, but everything you "learn" about food-combinding, fermentation etc. is factually wrong.

Amazon has a great selection of books on diet, this isn't one.

Do some research before you jump on the bandwagon. Here's a start: http://www.quackwatch.org/11Ind/fitforlife.html

Summary: The Truth Unleashed
Review: This is a great book with Harvey at times unleashing his full venom at the medical profession, food industry and fellow dieticians. He is speaking up for the truth and I happen to believe him. Why? Because I have tested and followed the Fit for Life principles myself and they work.

However before reading this book (which I call Fit for Life III), I would advise buying and following the principles laid out in the first two books i.e. Fit for Life and Fit for Life II. They are easier to read, gentler (probably because they were written in partnership with Marilyn!) and cover the essential dietary/lifestyle principles you need to follow.

Good luck and God bless.

Summary: Maybe the theories are wrong, but this works and is SAFE
Review: To the bub in Oklahoma who is so hell-bent on trashing Harvey's ideas:
First of all, you say this diet is so unsafe. Have you ever actually talked to a doctor and mentioned the foods that you eat on this plan? Or a nutritionist? My doctor said this was a fabulous way to eat--whether or not you agree with the theories of toxins or not--the varieties and kinds of whole and natural foods, including fruits, vegetables, dairy, and meat, all fall in the guidelines of the basic four foodgroups. Harvey just recommends you eat the foods combined differently--which worked for me. I lost 40 pounds in 4 months, eating all the time.
Secondly, why the anger at this diet? Have you tried it? Have YOU cracked a nutrition book, or asked a doctor if this is safe? Didn't think so. Try reading the first book, Fit for Life--there are tons of doctors in the endorsements...again, my own doctor praised this way of eating.
The hard thing about this diet is making your own meals. And buying fresh foods and preparing them constantly. That's what was so tough for me.
Anyway, I doubt you'll change your mind because of my words, but I just wanted to weigh in and say, "What are you talking about?" Trying to scare people away from such sound and workable ideas as the Diamonds...
By the way, I have NOT read this book, I only give it 5 stars because the other books were so good. Notice that Anthony Robbins gives it the thumbs up by the way...

Summary: This book is great!
Review: Wow, I was so glad to see Harvey Diamond with a new book. I had wondered what happened to him after he wrote his first two books (Fit for Life and Fit for Life II). I think his new book is a very powerful wealth of information. The seven stages of disease are right on the money and I truly do believe that 99% of disease and illness can be prevented and/or cured by eating the proper foods in the proper combinations. I have tired it and MAN! does it ever work! My stomach doesn't hurt all the time, the bloating is gone, my joints do not ache continuously anymore, I have lost wight and I feel great! At the risk of sounding like a nut, I would almost say that it is like finding the missing key to the universe (ha-ha) It is THAT profound. The thing that makes it so believeable is that a lot of what is relayed is purely common sense. It is SO simple! I recomend this book to ANYONE who is truly looking for something that will change their life for the better. However, I do recommend that you read the 1st two books before jumping right into the 3rd one. Reading the 1st two books first will help to build a solid foundation and understanding of what Natural Hygeine really is. If you are seeking good health, look no further, you have found it, this IS it! :)
