Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Thoroughly engaging book Review: I bought this book for a class I was taking in college on human sexuality. It definitely presents a different take on normal sexual practices. I hadn't heard of the kundalini, or even the chakras, and other sacred sexual beliefs until I read this book. The author is long-winded and detailed, but that's to the benefit of people like me who are novices to Eastern philosophy. I read this book at length, and after my class, I gave it to my girlfriend, and we've enjoyed reading about some of the more uncommon sexual techniques described in detail (here's one: for deeper penetration, place a pillow underneath your or your partner's body during intercourse). The author also talks about the sacred aspect of sex, and how it can enhance your connection with your partner. Although this book isn't for everybody, if you have an open mind and are willing to try new ideas, you might enjoy this book.

Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Biased erotica, mushy esoteria, nostalgic for Mystic sex Review: Looking at it now I realize we've evolved some as a culture less heterosexist. Now perhaps we are more aware of power and shape of female sexuality than we were then. Also it was easier to be accepting of stereotyping as some form of archetypal mandate of gender polarity than it is now. Again homosexuality and bisexuality seem now more normative (even if you are straight), so some of the gay bashing and other rigid gender typing imported from a superficial glance at sexual symbolism around the globe makes the book a little out of focus. Still for many of us, that God wants us to be sexy seems a sinful idea, then this little book will titillate us out of that ugly life-denying myth. So cheers for the effort even if the culture has moved into a wider and more sophisticated grasp of esoteric energy work and meditation than this book can possibly suggest. As a how-to the book is too superficial, and the esoteric meditations are not adequately reported as to become welcome guides on how to let divine energy catch afire in our lovemaking. The colorizing of some of the black and white line drawings definitely adds to the erotica appeal of the work, and it is as a mild piece of sacred sexuality that the work best serves, that is as entertainment rather than instruction.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Would bore a missionary! Review: The book is extensively researched, but ultimately sacrifices heart for a confused mess of deeply biased data. Is it a handbook? A history of curious things you can do sexually? A reference manual, rather like a sexual encyclopedia? The secrets aren't really secrets. Most of them, in fact, are either pretty ordinary positions or are positions more suited to contortionists; all are listed by some "fancy" non-Western name (no "Howdy Pardner" positions here). Sadly, the emotional aspects of sexuality are glossed over. If you're gay or lesbian, I strongly recommend that you read what the authors have to say about you before buying this book. I suspect you won't find their views to be kind or helpful. Heterosexuals also are shoe-horned into stereotypes. Better books: "The Joy of Sex" for sex manual tips, and for a better overall handbook, I recommend "Sexual Energy Ecstasy: A Practical Guide to Lovemaking Secrets of the East and West." It's better written, better organized, more fun, and unlike this book, has some real sexual "secrets" that most people can actually use. .........I would recommend watching the authors for improvement in other books, though, since they clearly put a lot of work into this and did the research.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: the heavily annotated Kama Sutra Review: This book came very highly recommended to me by a couple whose sexual bravado I respect. They went through all the positions, raving over each new plateau. So I got the book, of course. It was a good recommendation, but it requires patience to plow through some things that simply won't apply to you. If you have an erotic library or a lonely coffeetable, this book will not fail to do justice to either, but if you're looking for one definitive manual to begin with, look somewhere else. If you're looking for erotic art of eastern and Indian origin this is a good book to have, there's a voluminous sampling of it. The book is definitely better explored between lovers; it was written by lovers for that explicit purpose.
