Rating: Summary: I loved it! Review: I've been trying to find a diet that helps me drop some weight, while maintaining muscles. I'm 5'5 and was 118 lbs. In order to fit in my wedding dress in October, I wanted to lose some fat and gain some muscles to look better on the big day. The plan was easy to follow, and it's a no guilt system. I only follow the book for breakfast, lunch, and snack. I kind of just watch my portion with dinner, and guess what, in one month, I've lost 4 lbs. I know it's not much, but to me, it was quite difficult since I wasn't overweight. Now I'm looking better (since I work out 3-4 times a week), and I have energy, and I feel stronger. This diet doesn't leave me hungry or feeling dizzy. Besides, the zone diet also emphasizes on "Portion". It's about time for America to down-size a bit, and remember, by the time you feel full after a meal, you've already eaten more than you need. Hence, extra calories will be stored as fat. Besides, the book offers many recipes are easy to prepare and great in taste. I think everyone will benefit from this diet even if one doesn't need to lose any weight. It promotes a balance meal, which I believe it makes more sense than following the Atkin's diet.
Rating: Summary: 50/50 review Review: Some friends of mine suggested this book. After much convincing I decided to give the Formula a try. I am not one for silly fad diets. I believe in just making healthy eating choices and exercising. The bad points: 1. What an expensive diet!!! If you want any variety in your meals the grocery bill really adds up. 2. I'm a true italian, bread and pasta. The fat flush made me miserable. Not just mentally, I felt so drained and muggy physically. I don't understand why everyone raves about how great they feel. I physically felt drained. I truly believe I was in carb withdrawal. 3. Most of the recipes were not simple. After coming home from work I didn't want to sit in the kitchen. At least not every night. 4. Whether the formula (40-30-30) truly works or not, it doesn't matter because you are cutting down on calories. The good points: 1. The recipes are fantastic! They truly taste great. 2. You're full. There was never a time where I was left hungry. In fact, often I could barely finish my meal. 3. Great job of explaining the science. As I said, I am a skeptic of diet fads, but the science behind it is what convinced me to at least give it a try. The results: There weren't any. It was so disapointing! All the testimonials claimed to lose some weight in even the first week and I lost none. I'd say I'm about average size. I'd like to lose 20 lbs to be "skinny". I exercised/weight trained and still nothing. I wonder if this works for those that are overwieght 20+ to lose (not meaning any offense by that) vs. 20- to lose. Needless to say I didn't make it through the fat flush. Nothing was flushing for me. And my friends that made the suggestion? Didn't last more than a week. Better luck to the rest of you.
Rating: Summary: A Diet for the Non-Dieter Review: While I understood the science of Dr. Barry Sears in the Zone, I found the program way too complicated to figure out how to eat and live on a regular basis. The Formula is kind of like The Zone for dummies. I was able to start an eating program right away and felt wonderful within days. While my scale did not plummet, as was explained in the book, my clothing started to feel looser and I consistently lost two pounds a week, even when I had "cheated". I lost 30 lbs. on this program and felt like I was eating all the time. It does really work and I didn't do anything I thought was dangerous or didn't make sense. I love the idea that anything can be done in balance. It is real life. Not all of one thing and none of another. The book is easy to understand and the program is easy to follow. Kudos!
